Most of the games now are making the majority of pts achievable through online play.  I don't agree with this trend.  I think almost all acheivements should be available through the single player game (unless it is an online only game) this way EVERYONE has a chance to earn a decent gamer score even if they don't like to play online.

In the past this was not really an issue as your gamerscore really only applied to braggin rights.  But now with the onset of these challenges that will reward you based on your gamer score I think MS should begin to mandate that at least 2/3rds if not all achievments be available through the single player (offline) experience.

Not gonna happen with them pushing the Xbox Live service.

2/3 offline would not make sense whatsoever. 50/50 maybe. You don't have to get every achievement. With that in mind I have traded in games I hated b4 getting even the easiest of achievements remaining (Top Spin comes to mind).

I agree with you that its not gonna happen.  Certainly I would like to see it happen but like you said...pushing LIVE means they will want to keep things happening there.  I also have traded in games before getting the easiest of achievments in the game because of my hatred of the game overall.  LOL...with the $60 price tag now...i have become a tad more cautious on my buys.

I have said it before and I shall say it again. Microsoft are incredibly sly when it comes to marketing their products. They have some of the best marketing people in the business. If it means new people purchasing xbox live in order to obtain much needed achievement points in order to be 'rewarded', microsoft will require that more achievements be only attainable through online play.

It sucks, but that's life. I do agree, however, as I don't like playing online to get achievements. I think more achievements should be geared towards single player.

It doesn't matter to me. I get the poop end of the deal anyway. I'm from Canada and we're not lucky enough to get any contests. Although some of the online achievements are pretty damn hard.

I agree, I play games to have fun, so ranked match's don't matter to me at all.

I only get the achievements for the games that I like.  Some of the games I've put into my 360 I haven't gotten a single achievement since I didn't enjoy playing the game (Burnout Revenge, King Kong, Fight Night and 4 arcade titles come to mind instantly).

Whatever, if you want single-player achievements then get Oblivion, that 1000 points and all offline at that.

They do it for a reason, whether you think its a good thing is besides the point. They do it to attact gamers to live, Microsoft's big advantage over PS3 is live and so they want to get as many people on live as possible. Developers and Publisher want you to play on-line because that increases that chances of you buying the game. The common trend is a 10 hour single player game with no multi-player doesn't not sell well, and a 10 hour game with great multi-player that no one plays does equally well, so to sell games they have to entice you to play their multi-player and they do that through achievements.

It is not going to happen. Online play is the future of gaming whether you like it or not. I do agree that having to play ranked games to get achievements blow. In a recent Major Nelson podcast, he said that they are notifying developers that it would be preferred to not have achievements based on ranked games. They don't have to listen, but I'm hoping most do. I mean gamer points really are worthless. So, there is no reason for game developers to force people to play ranked games. I know I have a big friend list and prefer to play with them.
