do i have to shell out 40.00 for the microsoft ones or is the third party cables are just as good could someone confirm this and not say "microsoft cables are better because its just first party" some proof would be nicebecause the third party cables are significantly cheaper and i need to save money for this holiday season:) also which is the best third party cable besides monster
error 74 is either the AV cable or GPU. i had the similar problem, realized it was the GPU in my 360. it might not even be your cables, could be your 360's GPU. how did you get this error message?? what is your setup like?? VGA, composite, component??

i was playing the darkness then all of a sudden the game turned green everything turn into a nightvision green but the dashboard was normal and then went into a arcade game to see if it was the game and then the arcade game turned nightvision green so then i restarted the console and i got 1 red light on the lower right corner of the power button and it said on the bottom part of the tv "E 74"
i looked it up and it was a error with your hd av cable and the solutions were plug it back in again or get a new one i replugged it back and it still got red light so the other solution was to get a new cable im thinking about the madcatz universal cable but if i buy these will there be a drop in quality since there third party thats what im asking
i got this error right after the update and told em the update caused it and they said updates dont cause crashes ever and i said BS but i refused to pay 100 and just did the towel trick but u will have to keep turning it on cause it does some auto shut off after like 5 min

Date 7-22-2007!The thing it seems like this one runs hotter than my old one!If i end up having to send this one back in im asking microsoft to send me one with HDMI port.A littlecompensation would be in order! anyways good luck .
the thing is with 3rd party cables is that the first party has copyrights on everything for there systems from cables to the way the buttons are on a controller. so if your going 3rd party then get a good one atleast. mad catz is the worst brand ever.... gamespot/ebgames brands have worked good for me. if you look enough u can also get a used cable thats 1st party for alot less.
Get the Microsoft cables for $40 and try them out. If they don't work make sure you have your receipt. I just cut a slit on the side and pulled the cords out, and when they didn't work, I slipped them back in. I ran into this problem, and it was an internal problem. It's about a 5% chance that it is your AV cables, and a 95% internal damage. If it is in fact internal, you have to send it in. Which is a pain, but I'm pretty sure they give you a free gift. Well I got one anyway.

They sent me a one month Xbox Live card, and sometimes they send games (or at least they used to). ***Only send your system in, no games, no wires, no face plates, or hard drives.*** I don't have a lot of experience with 3rd party cables. Although I used Madcatz one time, and it broke in 3 days. Also if 3rd party wires cause damage to your system, it voids your warranty because they aren't a Microsoft product.
I have the first and thrid party cables, the thrid party cable is made by madcats and it has multiple system campatablity, i use it because i need the S-Video cable. I dont remember how much it was, but it has near perfect quality if ur tvcan use the S-Video cableon it.

I hope for your sake it is just a cable problem. When my second 360 went into matrix mode it was the GPU. By the way I am sending my 3rd 360 back tomorrow (no bioshock on release for me).
