I'd suggest you read up on both systems before you make your decision. I don't want to come off as bais, but I'd say go for the Xbox 360 because of the huge list of great games from both first and third party. To tell you the truth, my 360 broke last week due to the infamous Red Rings of Death, but there is a extended three year warranty on the console, I sent in my system for repair and got it back in a couple of days. Also, you should know that the newly released models manufacured this year are less likely to become defected.

RROD and other problems have a 3 year warrenty...and after that you pay like 80 bucks to get it repaired...my first one was fine for 3 and a half years, then rrod'ed...I payed 80 euros and MS sent me a new one.

I've had the RROD, and as much as it irratates you, within a couple of days (if you're in the three year warrenty) you get it back, free, and as good as new!

The Gamerscore system is simply 1000x better than PS3's shoddy-wanabe trophy points, we have a larger (MUCH larger) selection of great games, better designed controllers... The list goes on, for, what is it, £40 a year? (not sure what that is in euros/dollars) for XBL - butyou get better value for your money, and those red ring worriescan just float away... float away....

When I first got my 360 (Feb 09) I was so paranoid about RROD. I would constant feel it to see how warm it was, monitor the clock.

Frankly now, I just don't care. If it happens, it happens. There's no reason to ruin my gaming experience over a fear that system is going to crap out on me. Hell my PHAT PS2 had DRE...I was pissed off but I went out and got a PS2 Slim. The great thing with the 360 is that you get THREE YEARS of FREE protection for the 360's BIGGEST problems.

The 360 is an amazing machine (even if you do own a PS3/Wii), it should not be missed.

well, some of my friends had rrod and they sent it to Ms and they couldnt fix it so he bought a pre-owned one, i have both, and i've had my ps3 for around 3 years and its frozen less than my xbox which i bought 6 months ago. there are a lot of other costs for the 360 like the wireless adapter(89 buck canadian) live (60 buck for a year) whereas the ps3 has blu-ray, the adapter is built-in and online is free, and dont think for a sec that xbox has better games, ps3 has very good games like warhawk, killzone 2 resistance, little big planet, mlb 09 the show, i can name a lot, but xbox has halo, gears of war, fable, fallout expansion, but i think the ps3 is worth your money

As many will tell you, the newest units are pretty much fault free. As for the 360, its a cheaper console and has MORE exclusives not forgetting it covers more genres. And even then, MS turn-around is VERY fast. Id say get it, and at $200 you cant go wrong

I got a new 360 4 or 5 months ago and so far the only problem ive ran into is the controller randomly shutting off during online play but that was easly fixed with buying a rechargeable battery with a usb charger....well that and the fact that theres very few 360 games coming out this year

I was timid about buying one also, but I researched that MicroSoft put a new chip in it, and it doesnt let it overheat. So dont worry :)

Really it's your decision, but a 360 is pretty awesome I'd say. And as most have said, you shouldn't worry too much about newer consoles nowadays, they're less likely to have a problem as opposed to early models.

I own a 360, and I'm telling you straight off the chest : Buy a PS3. The 360 is riddled with too many problems (some of them being fatal to the system) and it's a pretty lame feeling that you know it's not going to last you. Their lifespan is ridiculously short so if you get it, enjoy it while it lasts. In 5 years, your 360 will be dead and your games will be sitting there (unless you know for sure you want to dedicate yourself to Microsoft and you want the next 360 which is hopefully backwards compatible).

Wrong place to really ask, but it really depends on the sort of games you may enjoy, which friends have which consoles, and if money will be a big problem. Personally, I'd take the 360 since I'm a big fan of WRPG's and my best friend had one.

Edit: O by the way if you're worried about buying a 360 for it's faulty hardware, you do have a good reason to be afraid but with the option of installing games (recommend pro or elite console) there isn't much to worry about.

Never fear, MS has a 3 year warranty on the system so that if you get RRoD'd or something you just get it repaired or replaced for no charge.

The 360's problems are so minor and scarce now that you need not worry about a thing. Plus you get FREE 3 year warranty coverage on all of it's most prominent issues. So don't sweat it.
