I just move in to a big house and this time I have to go wireless to go on xbox live, I have a desktop on my 3rd floor so I set up my wureless router there to hard wire my desktop. Now my xbox 360 is in my living room on the first floor so I have to get a a network/game adapter to talk to my router on the 3rd floor. Last night I was on our laptop on the first floor and it did drop the connection a few times , however this also used to have happened at my old address when I had DSL. I am also looking on amazon.com right now looking for an adapter and I am thinking about getting the one from Linksys instead of the more expensive one from Microsoft . So my ?s are these... Do any of you guys have a long distance between your console and your router and is your connection just fine? Which network adapter should I get? I dont need to have a perfect connection all the time because I am not online often nowadays but at the same time , I don't want disconnects all the time. What do you guys say?

Well the Microsoft piece is the best one to use. I've tried a few alternatives...

My router goes through 1 staircase, and 2 floors...it is a little slower, but I see nothing more than lag. Never any disconnects. Get a good router and you should be ok.

I still don't trust wireless and don't want my connection randomly dropping out for no reason. I use a 30m ethernet cable that is completely concealed apart from about 1m at each end where it comes out the wall and connects to the router/console

You're asking which wireless adapter to get. I thought that the 360 could only use the official 360 adapter.

i bought a ****** router for £25 and a ****** wireless reciever (plugs into 360,xbox and ps2) for £25. i just plugged the reciever and router in and within a few mins i was on xblive. the ms adaptor is £60 on its own so i got a good deal.

here is a link for the adaptor http://www.amazon.co.uk/******-802-11g-Wireless-Gaming-Adapter/dp/B0002AGJOE

but dont buy it from amazon. go on ebay. i just put that link up so you could get some more info and read the reviews. it is top quality and i reccomend you get it.

if you can use a cable, but there is no problem in using a wireless connection, as long as you get a good router...

I'm more inclined to believe this is the case. I think the problem is your router, not the networking piece. Check for any kind of interference...and go from there.

I actually had the one from Lynksys and tried using it but it wouldn't work... I bought the M$ version and it took a little while to configure to my router settings and all but it worked like a charm. It's very fast and there's usually no lag whatsoever. Try searching on Buy.com they usually have low prices on these things.

Being a network stuedent id have to say wireless is a pain in the ass in a house becuase of the buildings you may get a 23% signal then move 3 ft to the left and get 75% overall its inconsistant and you want to place security on your wireless network so id suggest a non brodcast ssid and mac filter so over all its easier to just buy a 50 ft network cable from future shop and run it to you xbox youll get faster speeds and it wont be a pain in the ass to setup and then use.
