Two questions.

1. Is it faster or easyer to do the repair online or by phone?

2. Currently are they sending people back Refurbished xbox with the Jasper or Falcon chip set? I would think Microsoft would to stop the RROD problem.

But I have an old one (before they probably even though of doing a Falcon chipset).

If I get one of the newer ones I need a new power supply too.

Doesn't all Jasper and Falcon xbox's have HDMI? (I don't currently have an HDMI xbox, I would think the refurbished one would?)

I think they send out Jaspers now for the refurbished, but I'm not 100% on that. However, it's faster over the phone. I did my repair online for my first 360, and it took nearly 2 weeks for them to ship out the box.

Over the phone and online is really about the same in speed. I called last week and they had a box at my door the very next day, total it only took 8 days from when I called to when I got it back. Unfortunately, I think the one I got back, my 5th, is not a new chipset so its only a matter of time until my 6th...

I think you would have to get the same chipset you sent in as they all have different power supplies.

I don't know about before, but online now I can print a shipping lable and take it to my UPS store (I plan on going tomorrow).

So I assume thats quicker then waiting for a box to be sent (I could have done this, but it said on the site it would be 4 days)

I also have to assume they are sending me the same chip set that is broken? Unless they send me a power brick too. Which I don't competely get! The point of having a newer chip set is to fix the problem.Do they keep making the older chip set for refurbished ones?

Last time when I had to do this all it took 20 days total (after I had sent mine off). I assume now its down to maybe 7-14 days!

i JUST recieved my launch console back from repair, it has HDMI and still uses the same power brick (i was wondering about that myself) so im guessing they would have to replace it with the same chip that was in it before considering the newer chips use less energy and have a different pin setup on the power cord

Edit: also online is faster because microsoft DOES NOT send out a box for you to ship it to them in anymore, so just go online, print out the shipping label and take your xbox and the label to your nearest UPS store, have them pack it and there you go.

phone in they dont send a box,. its exactly the same speed for both methods. and they dont usually give you a new machine back. odds on your getting the one your sending back with parts replaced in it. if you get a refurb, you will probally get one that works with your current power supply. no one can tell you if you get a refurb back what version of the xbox it will be because no one actually knows for certain you will get a certain model. i think logic dictates it has to be one that runs on the same power brick you have.

But that is where the problem lies.

If they keep sending me back either 1. My old unit but now "fixed" or 2. A refurbished one with the same chip set. I'm in the same boat for the next 3 years. In theory everybody that bought an xbox 360 before this was fixed just keep trading xbox's around until somebody sells it on ebay and buys a new one. I assume I'll get a refurbished one, because it takes longer to try to fix it.

I don't see the point of keeping the defective ones in circulation! But I'm guessing that is what they are doing, all because they have a 3 year warranty!

Is it just me, or isn't this fishy?

Getting back a faulty xbox isn't really fixing the problem is it?

So what chipset did you get?

Because as far as I know the older chip set didn't have HDMI? Maybe the first Elites had the old chipset and HDMI. I assume yours was black? I guess they could be swaping out old pro (like mine) with newere HDMI ones, those ran on the same power brick. Probably still have the same problem.

On the phone you can still have them e-mail or go into the xbox.com repair pages and print the label. The only advantage I see of doing it online vs phone call is you don't have to talk to people to try to trouble shoot the problem when you already know what the problem is.
