The biggest problem, aside from the quality of the games, is the amount of room you need to play it. Its not very realistic expecting you to clear out an area 8 feet far and wide. I literally had to remove my coffee table and move my couch back into my dining area in order to satisfy the set up. This is not practical. The lighting did not seem to matter as much. I only have one lamp so i have very uneven lighting in the room and it worked well in that regard. I have not tried it in the day time.

Now, other than the amount of room needed, there is another problem. Kinect has no finesse with subtle movements. Unlike the Wiimote and Move Wand, the Kinect just can not make out subtle wrist moves. Example is bowling...you can not throw the bowling ball with a curve without making some wild, exaggerated arm movement, and even then you just cant spin the ball the same way you can with WiiSports Bowling. Basically you just throw straight balls down the middle or from left to right or right to left. This makes for a very boring and unsatisfying bowling game.

Table Tennis is the same. Its is very slow and laborious. There is barley any feeling of controlling the spin ...you just dont feel in control over the paddle like you do in the Sports Champions version.

Game input lag does hurt some games. Jumping hurdles is all about guessing when to jump rather than skill, you have to think a second ahead of time...several games have this problem.

The only thing that worked well was steering in the Skiing and Hang Gliding events in the UbiSoft MotionSports game...very natural and responsive.

So far, Kinect just does not even come close to the accuracy of the other motion systems out there.

If anyone has Kinect and wants to add their opinions, please do. I want to know if you feel Kinect does what you expected from it.

I like it

I've played a bunch of games and liked all of them, it's not going to be like using the controller but we're not at the point where motion gaming can be like gaming with a standard controller

It's perfect for the casuals and the children and people who want a break from the normal grind of gaming

For me it's the best remote control I've ever had, when it gets more games that I want it'll be just another way to play games

So far it's the best way to control games outside of the normal controller because it's not limited by the controller. Each revision will make it more and more responsive

No offense but I've seen your posts before and you are a total Microsoft fanboy. Who gives a crap that I can turn on my 360 without pressing 1 button? I mean honestly, what people will buy nowadays is just plain sad.

Yeah for the space it might suck, but you'll be glad you got Kinect in the long run. I'm not really in it for the full motion control games. I want Kinect for the games that will utilize the xbox 360 controller along with voice/motion commands. For example, Call of Duty, could go with coordinate based maps, so you could voice activate where you want a care package or kill streak attack on said coordinate. Plus, call out area's where the enemies could be. This would help free up buttons on the controller for other options. Plus, it would stream line the game and make it better. Most people just see the casual games without using the controller, just think of what can be done along with the controller. Also for diffuse the bomb mode's in games, you could have a full motion sequence where you have to diffuse the bomb instead of "hold a" until a meter fill's up. plus with modding weapon attachments', you could grab attachments off of downed enemies and then equip them to you're weapon. Grab a gas can and douse an area with gas and then light it up. I'm just imagining but why not, it's just up to the developers to make it happen.

Obviously you haven't if you think that but it's ok, everyone makes mistakes

Who cares? I worked on my PC today and was able to watch different things and listen to different music while I was doing it and not even having to take my eyes away from the PC, I just had to say what I wanted. Considering I pay 200 bucks for remotes that don't even do that yes, this is the best remote ever.

When it comes to games these are for casuals and children, that's the demographic they're aiming for and they do a good job. I wont drive a car in a game that I can't tune but what happens if I want to play with someone that doesn't play racing games or even any games in general? You play Joyride.

Somehow you think that a device targeted for casuals and kids right now is somehow missing the mark but being for casuals and children right now

I've had it for a while and it does exactly what Microsoft needs it to right now

That's a shame to hear about the space issue, as I was thinking about getting it next year or something... my bedroom is WAY too small for that by the sounds of things. Hmm... since I have been playing The Sims 3 a lot on my Xbox 360 lately, let's use that as an example :P. Basically, if you imagine that game I have two squares for both my chair and my TV and monitor (TV is on the wall above my PC monitor). I am in a very tight space and even if I moved my chair, it would be the same. Not only that but a wall would be in the way and my legs would keep hitting the bed... ah well, looks like I won't be Kinecting :(.

It maybe be possible for them to tweak the settings it allow it to function in a smaller space.. hopefully that is the case because 8x8 seems a little to large for the average gamers space(could be wrong though).

I agree with the op. Once the novelty wears off, kinect will be collecting a lot of dust. It is the precision missing from games that will doom it. Flapping your arms and legs around will get old quick.

That doesn't seem like much for 150 bucks, you can do that with the headset that came with the system. That game, I think it was called Endgame worked with voice commands long before Kinect. In order for MS to make Kinect a legitimate option, first off they will need better software, that should go without saying. Second, the hardware needs fine tuning, the spatial requirements are not good, especially for something is suppose to be a multiplayer device. Lastly, they have to have software commit to it, they cant say "Oh we have Madden, you use a controller, you just call out your play" that's pointless, its nothing but an unnecessary peripheral if that is the plan. They need software that is made for Kinect, that's not possible or plays much better with Kinect, but it cant just be exercise and dancing games. I don't think MS really understands what their doing and are simply playing a game of one ups men. Given how long this thing was rumored and how long ago it was actually introduced, they should of had some hardware proving software from the start.

Doesn't work for everybody though. But that is understandable... mine would be the extreme of extremes :P. The wall at the side of my TV would probably just mean it wouldn't recognise the right side of my body at all, as the wall ends where the door is so my body would be half behind a wall.

I can't say much since I don't have the Kinect and don't have immediate plans to buy it, but take this in regard: the Kinect launched just a while ago -- it's normal for the first few games to be released with it to require a bit of fine-tuning. Let's just hope that's the case, and future games on the Kinect will improve on its capabilities.

I read that it was meant for a 6x6x6 space. Even that can be a challenge for some. I picked one up today but am going to wait to open it. ( I heard there might be a shortage and did not want to miss out if it was awesome). I like the tech of it but the input lag is putting me off.

Sadly, I have to agree. I played both and think that the Wii is the most accurate and accessible of the three devices. I had high hopes for the PS Move though as I already have a PS3 and saw it as adding a $100 Wii to it. I found it to be highly inaccurate as well.

ha i find this ironic

the press finds problems , -that proves the fact that what tc said is correct

the 3rd person just says wii and ps3 is lame

------------ doesnt that belong in system wars , im quite sure it does

but no ill defend the wii and ps3

you know why because

i have been playing the best fps -goldeneye007 , , and it is awsome -gamespot even agrees with me -8.5 vs 7.5 bloodstone

and gt5 is gonnabe epic

sure 360 has its games

but you sir are wrong to say wii and ps3 is lame

I've got to admit space is an issue and I may not have enough, despite measuring my room before hand. I pulled out my handy dandy tape measure, I had just over 7 1/2" between kinect and my set. It's looking like it's not enough. facial recognition is barely working for me. It always tells me to step back. In trying to do the user identification steps I simply cannot get my aviator to stand in the last row of green squares. I need to be 7 1/2 feet back, right against my couch for it to register me. The room is a rectangle. I simply can't move the couch back any further then it is already, it's against the wall.

I disagree with this completely. I've played a lot of PS Move so far and it's definitely more accurate than the Wii. Sure, the PS Move doesn't have much good software out yet, but I'd say the technology is extremely solid.

First time I tried to play it, I failed massively, I was so used to just waggling the controller around to get what I wanted. It sure is accurate. Kinect is an upgrade over the Eye Toy that came out for the PS2, that's for sure, but the technology is still weak in some areas. I was so disappointed to find out Fighters Uncaged.... can't do local multi-player. (WHAT?!!?) Either way, great gift for young kids, but if you have young kids you likely have a Wii in which case this investment isn't really needed... and at $50 a game it's a steep investment for games that feel like they are worth far less.

Thanks for the heads up. Only thing that will probably bother me when i finally get mine up is the needed space. I too will have to move the center piece in my living room and a portion of my couch to have the required space. I really don't like the idea of moving my furniture, but i guess its just a one time adjustment.

I can see where the lack of functions would be annoying and feel bland, but thats goes for any of the motion controls on all systems. Honestly im not even worried about this round 1 of kinext games or betas as they seem. Im more interested in what may come. I just hope its good enough to make me want to put down the controller and play it.

Wife has already said she wants the Biggest Loser for Kinect so maybe if nothing else it will be a reason to get in some exercise. :p

Even when this was announced, I wasn't excited for it. For one, it's too expensive, and it doesn't appeal to me. I watched the video where Crecente used it, and it just seemed annoying. Don't get me wrong, the tech behind it is cool. I just don't want to have to say Xbox every time I want to do something...

Because the technology is extremely impressive. The people that I saw at the midnight launch were all older men who clearly were there for the tech. While I surprised at how fun the games are, it's the little things that sell me most. For instance, I just did the Kinect chat last night with a friend, and the way it tracks you as you move around and capture your voice flawlessly without a headset it a wonder to behold. I have Move and a Wii, and the Kinect's technology is truly remarkable.

Anyone here ever try EA Active for the Wii? That was just a pain in the ass when you would do a motion and it wouldn't register. My wife and I would get so pissed off at it.

Kinect is awesome so far, and I'm glad I used my better judgement to flip the bird to the naysayers. And for the TC, are you black? There are issues with it registering black people in low light. And if you aren't, did you do the full ID scan setup before trying to play? Last night I was noticing that the Kinect was registering my motions great (with hardly any lag at all), and it wasn't picking up my wives motions as well. I've done the full scan thing and she hasn't yet, so I think that might be an issue. She was still able to play and it wasn't that big of a deal, but my motions were represented smoother on screen.

Anyways... I'm loving it and I'm glad I bought it.

My main problem with Kinect is that I simply do not have an 8x8 playing field. I'm not going to move into a bigger place just to play motion games when I can play them better on other systems. Shame, because I am interested in it.

My main problem with Kinect is that I simply do not have an 8x8 playing field. I'm not going to move into a bigger place just to play motion games when I can play them better on other systems. Shame, because I am interested in it.JustPlainLucas
Just keep it in mind if you ever move in the near future. I know I'll be considering it when I move next time.

I picked up a Kinect last night. I wanted one right from the start. Then I read a few bad things about it and had second thoughts. I bought it anyways and glad I did. It's actually better than I thought it would be. I'm having fun with it. Its not perfect, but not running into any major problems. I do have enough space for the Kinect. Hopefully some good innovative games comes out for it.

Anyways... I'm loving it and I'm glad I bought it.

no, im not black. The Kinect sees me just fine. Everything works great, except for some game lag in certain games and lack of finese in reading subtle wrist movements. Its great for broad body movements and very sensitive and nice for steering and turning, but it just cant duplicate delicate hand or wrist motions ( try manuvering the paddle in table tennis...its nowhere near the precision realism you get from holding the paddle in the Sony Move Sports Champion version of table tennis ). I think Kinect will be great for certain games, but it is limited and has some drawbacks, or i was expecting too much.

I can't help but think that if they left the on board processor in they would have had a lot less complaints except for the higher price. I was disappointed to find that it maps less parts than originally stated and this includes the loss of finger mapping because of the low rez camera. I still think it will do well and all but only with the casual gamer.
