The biggest problem, aside from the quality of the games, is the amount of room you need to play it. Its not very realistic expecting you to clear out an area 8 feet far and wide. I literally had to remove my coffee table and move my couch back into my dining area in order to satisfy the set up. This is not practical. The lighting did not seem to matter as much. I only have one lamp so i have very uneven lighting in the room and it worked well in that regard. I have not tried it in the day time.
Now, other than the amount of room needed, there is another problem. Kinect has no finesse with subtle movements. Unlike the Wiimote and Move Wand, the Kinect just can not make out subtle wrist moves. Example is bowling...you can not throw the bowling ball with a curve without making some wild, exaggerated arm movement, and even then you just cant spin the ball the same way you can with WiiSports Bowling. Basically you just throw straight balls down the middle or from left to right or right to left. This makes for a very boring and unsatisfying bowling game.
Table Tennis is the same. Its is very slow and laborious. There is barley any feeling of controlling the spin ...you just dont feel in control over the paddle like you do in the Sports Champions version.
Game input lag does hurt some games. Jumping hurdles is all about guessing when to jump rather than skill, you have to think a second ahead of time...several games have this problem.
The only thing that worked well was steering in the Skiing and Hang Gliding events in the UbiSoft MotionSports game...very natural and responsive.
So far, Kinect just does not even come close to the accuracy of the other motion systems out there.
If anyone has Kinect and wants to add their opinions, please do. I want to know if you feel Kinect does what you expected from it.
