So whenever a topic comes up about dying 360's i usually chime in about how ive had mine since launch and it hasn't died yet. WELL last night i was playing crackdown..i saw lightning outside, i looked out my window, turned back around, and saw THE RED RING OF DEATH! i pleaded with my 360 for about 10 minutes and low and behold it booted back up and still works....i think god (Bill Gates) was just showing me that mt 360 is not immortal

My launch console did the same thing...five days later, it crapped out completely.  I went and bought a core this past Friday.

Keep your eyes peeled for the 5-7 day crap-out period.

LOL. That's something to worry about though, I had the 3 red lights and I disconnected/connected everything again, but 1 week later happened again and that time there was no coming back. Be extra careful now, not like me, that played 6 hour marathons of Oblivion with the 360 as hot as hell.

I had the a similar thing the other day. I finally broke down and bought the wireless adapter. Got it home and plugged it into the back of the machine.

Hit the power button and all I saw was red. My jaw hit the ground. i turned it off and turned it back on...still red.

Turned out I had dislodged the cable to the TV when i put my wireless adapter on.

Alos had a power outage do the same thing as it did for you.  Power went out briefly while playing, screen flickered and the 360 went red.  Simply turned it on and off and it was fine.

Would a surge protector help in anyway against this happening again? My 360 along with my Wii took spill a couple of weeks ago from 6 feet up.  We were trying to re-wire a few things and the shelf gave out.  I turned it on and got the red ring however after we set everything back up and replugged everything back in it was fine.

For the future I think that might help, I've had mine connected to a good surge protector since day 1 because IMO electricity isn't... well reliable.

What else would he be doing?

Shut the **** up dumbass, that's what forums are for.

And you know this for sure? Since when were you the authority on the subject. And good luck with that, "I just came to get collision work on my car because I almost had an accident so it's bound to happen again soon."

Man some people are retarded.

I got the 3 red lights on my new machine when there was a power surge, its just a sign that the machine has shut itself off to protect against hardware damage, I knocked it off and back on and it worked fine. The 360 power supply has a surge protector built in.

Hey MikeB, Why don't you take a long walk off a short pier? Anyway, I have heard mixed reviews about surge protectors. Some say they are good while others say it is more stable to have the 360 in a wall outlet. I am not sure truly which is better. Also guys, i know it is tough, but if you are in the middle of a lightning storm it is time to turn of the 360, surge protector or not. Computer equipment is way to delicate to handle any sort of accidental power fluctuations, especially any resulting from a lightning storm.
