In all honesty, your not missing much.
And what little you are missing can be finished in a single evening unless your a multiplayer fiend.
You are missing out. It is soooooo realistic. Even realer than half of the games released today. And its intense.iwantasong

LMAO! I guess he meant that the GRAPHICS were very realistic.
BTW - LOVE your avatar!

LOL so true!
Rent it for a couple of days and complete the story. Well I use the word story - it's more like just shoot everything that moves, sandwiched between short cutscene clips that contain the "plot". There is a lot of potential for back story and expanding the plot - you just wont find it by playing the game.

You forgot the sarcasm tag or something right?
It's a quick, fun game if all you want to do is get through the meat of the single player campaign. Probably even better if you can get a buddy to do it with you.

That's not true, it's a very unique experience (or was when it came out) and the graphcis are still really good. The gameplay is fun, and the story is super full of holes, but besides that, it's a buy in my books. Plus you may want to know the details of Gears1 before Geears2 comes out.
I'm probably not the only one but I still haven't played Gears Of War. It's not that I didn't like the game, it's just that I kept buying newly released games, which made me forget about the older titles that I thought about getting. So now that Gears Of War 2 is right around the corner, I just wanted to know, am I missing out alot from not playing Gears 1? sargentbotk
Yes you're missing out a lot, try it, you'll love it. It's still my favorite 360 game and can't wait for GOW2. If your PC can handle GOW, get it on PC, you get a little more content.
It's a good game. The single player (and co-op) are well worth playing through, but the MP is limited and I'm not a fan of the community.
Buy it used if you can, or rent it.
Xbox 360 is one of the only consoles that I really HATE when I miss a blockbuster game. I have a budget, plus I play a gang of games....so I usually go back and get the best games. I went back for Assassins creed..I still have to go back for bio shock. You GOTTA get Gears....IF NOT....you will be left behind.
It was much better back when it came out, in its prime, more populated multiplayer. I still highly recommend it, it's a good game to have part of your collection. Good singleplayer, the multiplayer is probably the best on the 360. in fact, i just went back and started playing it again the other day. Just as fun as it was on Emergence Day. If you have not bought Gears Of War, you are not a true 360 owner.IISF-SniperII
That last statement made me feel sad a bit, but I know what you mean. I'm planning on getting it soon. So thanks for the insult boost. :P

I also have to get bioshock. This shows you how far behind I am. :/

Glad to have my insults go toward something good, heh. Also, Bioshock is a good game and all, but not worth a buy. It is an awesome game, i loved it, but that's probably because i didn't buy it. It is short, probably the same length as Gears Of War, but Gears is much more fun. Also, the lack of multiplayer for Bioshock really hurts it. I'd say rent it and beat it.
Is gears really that short for people to be beating it in 2 days? How much hours would you have to be playing to beat it in that amount of time?sargentbotk
Depending on the difficulty. I got 5 days out of it on hardened, but i also had school to go to, so it also depends on the amount of time you have to play.

Are there unlockable difficulties? Also, does it have some replay value?

You have to play through casual or hardcore to unlock insane difficulty. As for replay value, i played through the game once on every difficulty, at least. Also, i played through it on co-op i dont know how many times. So yes, there is a bit of replay value.
im gonna tell u the truth on this. i did enjoy playin through it once and maybe twice in the single player..and that was it..i tried gettin in on the online..but i hated it. it was sooooo stupid in my opinion. There is no rankings, unlockables, nothing. I enjoy workin or aiming for a rank or whatever when i play and there is none. On top of that..if ur a beginner going in..u play against people who obsess th game u get worked and its no fun...AND to add there is always a host advantage because of the server or whatever. And on top of that..u cant party up with friends..u to find a match and invite them.. another thing i didnt like was that most of the games..u die..ur done..gotta wait.. and thats mostley it except that one type of game but it gets boring after a while..
I do have to say i did enjoy it for the single player playin through with a friend. So RENT IT.. dont buy it.. not worth it..
