I'm so sick to death of first person shooters, frankly I was sick of them about 5 years ago. When are we going to get something new, something innovative. If I read one more post about how gears of war is the best game ever made i'm gonna barf. The same fanboys were saying that about halo, halo 2, doom, fear, and the other kajillion FPSs on the market.

The whole industry has boiled down to two things, if you play a ps3 or xbox is FPS, thats all anyone talks about. It's borderline impossible to buy something for the wii or ds that isn't a freakin' minigame compolation. Wario ware was amazing, but geeze already move on.

I want something new, I can't be the only one...

It's the way things are at the moment. People, especially in the west want to shoot stuff. A generic FPS or even TPS will get more attention than most other genres, it's the state of the industry at the moment.

And no you're not alone, FPS get very old very quickly, shooting the same rubbish again and again is tedious. I'm disappointed the FPS genre didn't go down the road of Deus Ex.

Didn't know that was a universal truth and people didn't have opinions... You learn so much on forums ;) That said, I'm a fan of almost every genre, as long as the games are great.

Fps game are hella fun and (in my case) never get old. GeoW was awesome! Halo 3 is looking and playing fantastic and there will be far more of these on the way. Sorry guys haha.

So, did you give Shadowrun a try? Are you excited for BioShock? There are many shooters that just aren't Halo shoot-a-thons.

Gears isn't a FPS if that's what you were getting at... Anyway, ya there are alot of FPS's, but that's what alot of people want. More FPS's. Supply and demand. It is getting rediculous. Whenever I hear of a new FPS, I don't ever look it over anymore. They say they have "groundbreaking new features" and "amazing graphics", or "amazingly groundbreaking...ly new gameplay", but they seem to be the same old stuff with nothing really groundbreaking, or great about it.

That's the same thing with every genre. JRPG's are just as guilty.

Have you tried Half Life 2 on the PC?

Have you been playing the PC at all. That's really where the innovation is at.

I too am getting sick of shooters. Don't get me wrong, I love a good shooter but the 360 is heavy with them and its nice to have a variety on the market.

Agreed. I am kind of tired of people screaming for something new or different. Go buy Dead Rising.

I'm pretty pleased with the line-up of games; I love shooters. And there's racing games, sports games and sandbox games if I want something different.

I wouldn't mind some more Platformers but all in all I'm pretty happy.

I'm looking forward to Bioshock which is going down the road of Deus Ex like I said. In fact it's spiritual prequel System Shock 2 was an RPG/FPS hybrid, did something different.

Shadowrun doesn't interest me in the least, I've seen videos and seen the reviews and it's just a shoot-fest with a bit of magic. Not all FPS are like Halo, they're like Battlefields, Call of Duty's, or strategic shooters like GRAW or RB6, their single aim is almost always shooting their core mechanic. There is very little innovation with them.

So true. I really wonder how many of these people who rave about Halo, Gears, and other shooters have ever played a good PC FPS. It just makes me think to myself, "wow." Especially Halo.... Ever try Unreal 2k4? And the controls are so much better on a PC... I don't know how shooters became the go-to genre for the 360... except because of the noticable shift from PC to console gaming... Meh, the only genres I prefer on the console are sports, racing, fighting, and a few others... and anything the Wii has to offer, I suppose ;)

Your probably not alone in thinking that, although I never tire of playing FPS's, it would be nice to see a new FPS that really pushes the genre forward.

you don't like FPS ok why do you need to make a thread about it?  It doesn't get old.  A simple game like soccer where all you do is try to put a ball in a net has been played for who knows how long.

theres nothing like putting in a good quick to get into shooter, turning up the surround sound, shooting 12 year old just to hear them whine and not forgeting blowing you windows out lol.

but after a while whiny 12 year olds is a real bore and playing the same game over and over grates aswell. so shooters are really good when played for short stints mixed with other genres.

Uh, NO.  Key words, FIRST PERSON.  Note that Gears is not FIRST but is rather THIRD person.  They are vey much different.  Would Oblivion be the same game if it only offered a 3rd person perspective?

I almost always refer to shooters as FPSs. It's easier than specifiying if it's a FPS or a TPS. Don't be a stickler.

For a game like Gears its the exact same thing as a first person shooter.   The camera is locked over the shoulder just like graw. Which makes it fuctionally a first person shooter.  But to the OP thats why it is good to have more then 1 system.  The ps3 line up in the fall/winter has a lot of different genres offered.

No your not the only one, but IMO I think you can do alot of things with FPS to keep them fresh. Or maybe, I just really really like em.  W/e the case, yes they do get to old to some, but alot of people like them so why would developers stop making them?

as long as there are more Halo's and Gears there will be more FPS's it's just a gaming fase as side scrolling platformers were in the 80's eventually it will die out and a new genre to take its place but it wont be for a while there will always be diehards in a genre but the masses only look torwards one

c&c 3 is pretty good, prolly not as good as it is on pc but its a nice change of pace from the shooters.  and what are you looking for in video games?  we have plenty of shooters, there are good looking rgs's coming out, in july and aug. you will get some more football games, in october some basketball games will come out. what are you looking for? games like prince of persia or tomb raider.  and there is a great racing game out now with froza 2  and a good one coming soon in dirt.
