Am I the only one that was a bit disapointed with GTA IV graphics??

I know it is an open world game and for that reason it cant sit on top with the other great looking games but I mean in this new trailer(specially when watched in 720p) there are so many rough "spots" ...

I mean look at the trees when the police officers appear and look at the city when the first hepicopter flies by! It doesnt look very sharp.In my opinion even Saints Row has better trees(and they are nothing special) .

And yes I give to much attention to trees :P

I Know but since everyone talks about it as a new step in gaming...I just dont see how something that can look so awesome sometimes and so bland others can trully immerse a player in what is considered by Rockstar to be the truthful next gen experience

How do they look like crap? It's a big step up from GTA:SA, maybe not near current 360 games, but nice for a GTA game.

The graphics definately dont look up to par with other big name 360 titles from the trailer, but as you yourself said, it is an open world game. Im sure they will get the resolution higher and the rough edges smoothed out before launch. Regardless, I dont think many people play GTA for the graphics. As long as they get the gameplay and open world feel right like the previous games, the sub-par graphics will be forgotten by most people, myself included.

I don't know. I seem to see a lot of small details in it. For instance in the trailer when he jumps out of the car right as it his a gas station pump, there are a lot of little small things there. There don't appear to be a lot of generic textures, look at the differences in the pavement. There are small pieces of trash laying around as well as what appears to be weeds growing through cracks in the pavement. There are refelective surfaces shown in the gas pump itself.

I think it looks good, especially for all the small details.

People really don't take everything graphics are all about into account. Physics and animation count greatly towards graphical fidelity (yes, even though you can't see them in screenshots), and they're superb in GTA IV. Also you need to take into account that they are re-creating four of the five boroughs of New York F'n City. Do you know how insanely huge the environment will be, plus with all the civilians doing their own thing and all the interactivity and other stuff? The area map of the game is almost as big as San Andreas', which was immense, but it's significantly more detailed and interactive.

This is why Gears of War annoys me sometimes. And GTA IV doesn't even look that bad! It looks good, especially compared to previous GTA games, which have never had amazing graphics yet somehow remained great games. Now everyone cares so much about graphics? Peh. If the Wii ends up "winning" the system wars, that'll be the reason why. Graphics can be pretty critical these days, don't get me wrong, but gameplay will always trump it.
