When signing up for Xbox Live, do you have to make a new profile, or can you use one that existed on your xbox 360prior to signing up?

All that really happens is that you change your profile name to your chosen gamertag and keep everything. Gamerscore and all.

You can upgrade your account to a silver or gold account because that's what I did and I didn't lose anything.

Yup, the only the that really changes is your username, and there's a chance it won't have to change either depending on the commonality of your Gamertag. If your gamertag is IAmAwesome92, then obviously there will be a conflict, but if your name is original enough you can still use it. You keep ALL your stats, no worries

You just basically change your name to a gamertag and that's it. You keep all previous info for that profile
