Why does GameStop find it necessary to place used game stickers right ontop of the actual paper label for their games? It really sucks when you try to take it off and it ruins the label. I'm just one of those gamers who takes a little pride in my collection. I'm just wondering why in the world they can't put it on the outside of the case where it is easier to take off. I know, very stupid thing to pet peeve over. :)

Thoughts?

As a GameStop employee, I'm not sure what you're talking about... I'll walk you through the sticker process: 1. Print 2 Price stickers and 2 ID stickers 2. Put disc in sleeve, and ID sticker in upper corner. 3. Put price sticker in upper right corner of box 4. Put ID sticker over actual bar code on box 5. But rest of sleeve on spine (fold up the paper while leaving the last price sticker on there, making it easy to just slide out of the plastic) I know for a fact that if they stick the sticker right onto the cover art, the employee can get in trouble, as they aren't supposed to do it. If it really bugs you, just complain to a Key at your store.

Will goo gone/goof off or any kind of product of that nature be suitable to taking the stickers off? I've thought about trying it before but I didn't want to ruin the game case without knowing if it had any adverse effects.

I think my gamestop actually changed there policy due to this. Now they dont even use the adhesive they just slide the sticker down into the "Spine" sleeve so you can simply slide it out when you buy it. Ask them, they may change it and understand your point.

That's what Corporate wants everyone to do. Technically, you can get fired for it, but you won't. It's what you're supposed to do though

Why not? Saving $5 on a game is nice. And if it doesn't work, you still have 30 days and you'll know if it works or not as soon as you put it in. If it doesn't work after that, it's because it's your own fault.

well i dont many games(1 every 3 mths or so) and so when I do I like to buy it brand new and in great condition there are also perks to buying it brand new like Gears 2 flashback map pack or 2 day free gold trials I give away. And besides, someone has to support the game industry! haha, like it needs help.

i just realized how long its been since i last bought a used game

yeah, i have no idea why they litter the covers and cases of games with those stickers

1 would be enough, but theres like 3

and even if there were only one, they still leave a sticky residue

hate em

the reason there's more than one is becuase a game might drop in price multiple times and the employees are too lazy to take the old one off, they just slap on another one on top.

yea it is annoying. I only had one game recently where they actually put it on the cover instead of the plastic. I thought I was one of the few that got pissed about this. It's good to see I have company. And thinking about it, I might actually go back to gamestop and try to get a better cover so I don't risk ruining the cover. Especially now that I know it's store policy. I take pride in my collection as well:)

it was a rhetorical question that aside, i meant they have em in different location last time i saw, there was top right, bottom left, and back somewhere when they are stacked on top of each other it can still be removed with less annoyance then 3 separately placed stickers

it wasnt very difficult to get the sticker off if you had patience and did it right, but it was annoying. and even more annoying when they put it on the paper cover itself under the plastic.

I don't know why any employee would put it on the actual paper cover. It just takes longer to gut all the games.

Calm down guys. It's policy. One of the top right to show price, one on spine to show price if not on wall and one covering bar code so you don't get charged the new-game price. The sticky, adhesive side on the spine should never touch the actual paper. If it does, it is against the rules. Complain to the manager. It'll get fixed, trust me. Finally, the reason you have a few on top of each other probably is from people not taking the sticker off when they buy the game, and when we get trade ins, we don't have time to pull of stickers. It's a boom-boom-boom-boom thing. If ya don't like it, don't buy used I guess. It's 3 minutes out of your life to pull the stickers off, plus Goo-Gone will rid any sticky residue that may stick there. If you'd rather spend $5-$10 more instead of taking a minute or two, be my guest.

Goo Gone is your friend. Also I find it easier to just not shop at Game Stop. I use to go in there 3 or 4 times a week, I got to know 3 of the guys that worked there and they knew how loyal of a customer I was so they gave me free warrantys on things and they eve got me a few games before the street date. When the 360 came out I of course bought one from there at midnight on November 21 2005 (I think that was the day it came out) and it broke 2 weeks later and I got another one (I had a warranty, That I payed for) that one broke in a month, got another one and payed for a warranty so on and so forth. so I finally got my 5 one and, After that one broke the guys realized how crazy it was and that I had been through so many in less than 6 months so they started to give me free warrantys.I am on my 7th now and all seems fine... So far that is. Needless to say those guys no longer work there and they have been replaced by jerks that know nothing of video games. I have been in there 3 times in the past 3 years (Once to pre-order skate 2 and get the free shirt, another time to cancel my Skate 2 pre-order [I bought it at BestBuy the day of release] and I just went in there fir the last time to buy Kane and Lynch used for 12 bucks)

More than half the used games I buy at Gamestop have the sticker directly on the game label. I have managed to get them off without removing any of the cover, but some of them have simply been stuck on too long. It's a nice surprised when I actually buy a game and the binding sticker is over the top of some wax paper, making for easy and non-game-cover-ruining removal.

I don't peel mine until after a week I bought it. Might not like it and I might exchange/return it (I think the guy at gamestop is already pissed at me lol)

The top right part is the anoyying one. I ruined my GTA IV plastic when I tried to peel it.

My record is MassEffect 4 layers lol. Just got it earlier.

im with u. it makes it easier for me not to support that store cause I am picky and I want the case and instructions (call me crazy LOLZ!) in at least decent condition. Not covered in yellow stickers that leave a unpleasant residue on the case. Anyways buying used games off of amazon and ebay owns going to the store since you can easily get whatever game you want for a way lower price and with a nice case and manual if you want. I have had very good luck with buying used games online.

GameStops around here are usually pretty good about it, but there is one store that will have the stickers on the box every once in a while. There's another store around there, though, that likes to put huge stickers that go from the back, over the spine, and to the front. Those stickers are a pain to get off, especially because I get a lot of movies from there. I hate that almost all the movies I've gotten from there still have that on there because I've pretty much given up on getting it all off.

One of the things I hate about GameStop though is the use of generic boxes. Since they stopped accepting Xbox games, I'm stuck with a game that no one will buy.

Choffy, I am surprised you have mentioned that sticking stickers on the cover art is against policy. I am glad corporate is taking this into account. Not only is it really difficult to take off, but if you end up ruining the cover you are screwed. Again, I know this isn't a huge deal to some, but some of us take pride in seeing the sides of our games we spend $$$ on sitting cozy in our game shelves. :) My GameSpot is notorious for this and it sometimes makes me decided not to buy games from them. Almost 80% of their used games have used game stickers on the spine of the cover art. Sourcerah, you are not alone my friend :)

I guess things have changed. All that's required now are GPG's. 1 year warranty's for your games whether the fault is yours or not. Either $1, $2 or $3 (depending on game price). Besides, I don't care about pre-orders. I find that they come to me. It's just when people cancel preorders that bugs me. Brings me to negative percent!!!

I hate when the PUBLISHER puts crap on the case. I remember GRiD had a big "9.0 Official Xbox Magazine" sticker on the case and it was one of the those cheap paper stickers that you can't remove without leaving residue, screwing up the plastic cover or ripping the sticker. It really makes the case look like crap. They really need to use stickers that come off easily and don't damage the case.

Yeah, all 3 Gamestops in my area put a sticker on the paper cover under the plastic sleave. The sticker will not come off without tearing the paper. I use to buy used games all the time before they started doing this practice. Now i dont buy any. You lost a customer Gamestop. Now i just buy new games from Best Buy.

I totally agree, Those stickers are so annoying to get off. Most of the time they leave a sticky residue after they're off, but sometimes you get lucky...
