Ok so i have a motorola sb4200 surfboard cable modem .I trie to get into xbox live and it tells me that the mtu fails.i have studied what mtu is like a history book and I still have not gotten a solution for my problem .I disconected the power from the modem and the 360 and the test still fails Pleaseeeee help me man plz .give me some solutions for this problem.plz

Unfortunately I do not have a solution, however consider visting xbox.com. Perhaps there is a FAQ which answers your question.

I've had this problem as well. My router is an older linksys model, though. It is not one of the "XBOX live approved models you can find on the Xbox.com website. Anyway, the default MTU setting for the router was set below 1420. Once that was fixed, my connection wasn't perfect but It was acceptable. So just set the MTU for the router as high as possible, above 1420.

I dont know how to set it myself, but i did a test on some website (something called tweak i think) and it said my MTU at 1500?

if youre using a router go to your router homepage and click around the tools and settings and advanced networks and you can find MTU and set it to 1400. doesnt MTU fail when the DHCP is disabled?

Im trying to use the connection directly trough my modem.. Ive been searching Xbox.com to find a solution but nothing has done the trick yet.. Now i just read something i couldnt understand.. Dont the MTU matter when you are using this type of connection?

MTU means Maximum Transmission Unit, live needs 1364 minimum. Judging by your posts saying that your is in the 1400+, I say its time to get a router.

try these.
