i thought cod4 on veteran was pretty easy, it was cod2 on veteran that gave me trouble. What i did on cod 4 was usually just try to use as much cover as possible, get a rifle/sniper and take tiny peaks around your cover to kill your enemies, takes a lot longer but you die soooo many times less than just running in with a machine gun like rambo. If you havent done this, its pretty much what you have to do on the hardest difficulty of all games

Don't go charging around the level, take it slow and check all of your corners.

Use smoke grenades if there are larger open areas or even if you need to get through a crowded corridor.

Crouching helps.

Use your squad members as much as possible. When they die, another will spawn to replace them. The trick for me was using cover and special grenades to move up to closer cover, and then my squad would follow. Be patient with it, because even good players are going to die some. It also helps to play through on lower difficulties first so that you know what areas have an infinite number of guys that you have to push past (in which case, you need to know exactly what triggers them to stop spawning), and what areas just have a lot of guys that you can sit back and kill from behind cover before moving forward. If you know those areas and let your infinite squadmates do most of the shooting, it really isn't too hard except for a few of the later levels.

1. Always be crouching; the only time you should be standing up is when your hustling or need that little bit of hight to take out your enemy.

2. Be patient; don't try to do everything at once, and you will die so don't let it get you down.

3. Use EVERYTHING; alot of people don't for some reson, but you need to in order to win on veteran. Special grenades are very important, flash for rooms with multiple enemies and smokes for ceossing open fields. Also you have claymores, AND C4. Claymores are great to plant in a room before a fight, then when you're about to die retreat behind it. That way they can't follow you. Also for buildings that have multiple halls, plant one to keep your back safe; C4 works for for just about any situation, especially when you're fighting the APC's on "All In", you can just throw the C4 onto the tanks instead of running up to them and planting them, it's a loife saver. Also if the game offers you a special weapon (Sniper, shot-gun, RPG) you should take it, it will always have a purpose, but you should always keep your M4, or if you drop it make sure you have something like a G36c, you're gonna' need that weapon that has good range, is good up close, and has a rapid rate of fire. Just a gun you can fall back on.

4. Know the level before hand; you should have already beaten the campaign once.

5. Run like hell; if you move outside a safe spot to get to another safe spot just run to it, son't stop and shoot, just run.

If these don't help there is like a dozen walk-throughs on Youtube, best of luck.
