I have owned the game since launch day but never played the online portion. Just a few months ago I really got into the online multiplayer and I regret not doing so before. Really fun online but needs to be patched and more maps needed.
whats bullet delay anyway? I still play all the time, last night actually and Im still loving it.boyinfridgeBullet Delay=Lag, the lag in the connection causes your shots to fire a little later than the host's. It may never be fixed unless they arbitrarily add delay to the host's guns.
i love how it's become fashionable to say gears sucks.
seen as the lag problem is just due to the time it takes information to travel from your xbox to the host and back, bullet lag is a tough thing to fix, so they probably can't ever fix the bullet lag problem, unless they installed their own servers to host the games on, which is no where near economically feasible at this point. even then, if someone has a slow connection, there will still be some lag. your best bet is still to just hope you have a host with a good connection, who isn't playing on another continent.
People act like Gears of War is the first game not to be played on dedicated servers. Get over it.jacksheets
The lack of dedicated servers isnt the problem the problem is that the bullets lag, which is a big problem in any game dedicated server or not. There has to be somthing they can do to fix it, its not enough to ruin a game but its enough to really piss you off. Doing something to the host's delay would work for a while atleast it would keep people from shouting "Host Shotty" everytime they get killed.
Its just rediculious when you hear the sound of your shot gun then a half second later see the bullets hit a target two feet in front of you.

Its not, but that doesn't stop it being one of the most unbalanced host shooters I've ever played. Try being an Englishman playing Americans, its terrible.
Edit: You and I have both played GRAW, and for me, the switch from Gears to GRAW in terms of bullet lag is amazing. GRAW is much more reactive. I think it's also to do with the style of game, in Gears it takes a lot to down an enemy, and it can be difficult off-host.
Anyway, the lag in Gears compared to other multiplayer FPSs is pretty bad, I'll leave it at that.
I find it funny that more people flame GoW than praise it nowerdays, but you know that when the sequel comes everyone will be so hyped up. I think alot of it is just people seeking attention.i love how it's become fashionable to say gears sucks.

I can assure you my connection is most likely quite a bit better than yours. I actually work for the Telco in my area and am located right by one of our nodes. The host advantage in Gears isn't all latency dependant. When I play with friends in my area who also have great connections the person who is hosting always has a major advantage even though our pings to each other are generally below 30ms. Ley me put it this way, if I'm not hosting and one of my friends are and we go toe to toe he will win every time given we start shooting at the same time. We did a test the other night between a few friends, We atood a set distance apart and shot each other with the shotgun. Anytime we shot the host, he took less damage than the rest of us given the same conditions. I've been playing multiplayer fps's since doom on my pc. This is not the norm. It's not just a latency problem, it's something else.

Host has no power advantage, its all connection, they do try to take an advantage away from the host in some cases, he gets a lot more blood splatter on his screen to try and impare his vision, however a good player shouldnt really be inpaired by this. Its just the 0 ping, host can be beaten you just have to try and either fire infront of him where he will be moving or be faster, but the host does not have more power. Its a shame, only dedicated servers will fix this, client side hit detection although sounds the solution on paper would likely inbalance the cover system.

Happened with COD2, you run, get to cover, then die in cover, because you got shot on the way there but the shot didnt register fast enough. With a cover system like Gears imagine how much it would mess up.

I see. You do know if you have dropped/killed someone from the audio and visual cues though. But it could still lead to some confusion.

Yes, but it would still make the cover system a bit screwed up.
I just want to set the record straight and say im not flaming gears of war, nor complaining about dedicated servers and whatnot. I was just wondering if this was an issue that was going to be attended too. Some peoples rooms are far worse then others, and most people who have been playing this game for a while now know how to compensate for the lag. Its just awkward going from a game like CS:S that takes precise aiming, to gears of war thats a frantic mess of circling each other wasting clip after clip of shotgun rounds praying that one of your shots hits them. Nevertheless, its one of the most fun multiplayer 360 games to date, i play it at least an hour a day, and i love it. Im not flaming, its just something i think would improve the game by far and was curious if there were any news about it.

That pretty much describes why I haven't played Gears of War in ages. They matters well eliminate the cover system altogether imo. Anyway, back to the topic at hand, the bullet delay will not be fixed until the game runs on dedicated servers. This will not totally eliminate the problem but will help it drastically. Here's to wishing that this issue is resolved in Gears of War 2.
