I have all my games installed to my hdd but it still gets really hot on the right sight with the fan.. do you think this is normal? Or should I flip it horizontally? I didn't notice/care about how hot my old one got so I'm not sure if this heat is normal. Thanks!

Yes it gets really hot. But so far from what I've been reading on the xbox.com forum is that its normal. People are even saying its a good thing because it means the hot air is coming out leaving the inside of the console cooler. Only time will tell if the heat is an issue. One poster was already complaining that all he can play is 15-20 min before the console starts to overheat. I've had mines on for most of the last 24 hours and haven't had a problem.

Okay few. I thought mine was the only one. Mine did freeze on me while playing BC2 single player and it shut itself off automatically and booted up again.. I think it might have overheated.. so I flipped it down horizontally. maybey that will keep it cooler.

based on what logic? wouldnt you have a greater surface area for heat to escape while vertical?

theres ventalation on the bottom of the xbox if your going verticle so it covers up some ventalation if you go verticle.. also heat rises so it should make the airflow from the top even easier to get out of the system :P

It should be normal. The PS3 Slim gets real hot and my 360 gets hot all the time. At least the new 360 is more reliable than my current one. It should be fine. You just have to do the usual: make sure it's well-ventilated, take hour breaks in between, and don't play for 5 hours straight!

When it's vertical, the side ventilation is covered up. I think that makes more of a difference.

probably also depends on the surface the xbox is resting on as well, how much heat it absorbs/reflects

*look at topic title*

put it horizontal possibly makes it cooler than vertical but in 1 or 2 hrs it will heat up no matter what.

It can sometimes get very, very hot (which can be normal). However, keep tabs on how many times it auto shuts off, that is not normal and if it continues to do that, i'd call support. calling about it isn't that big of a deal.

I have an 18 month old Xbox360 and a newer Xbox360 Slim with Kinect. I run both consoles in the horizontal postition, neither run hot.

I thought only one of the sides vents. I'm pretty sure the side with the hard drive is the side you can put on a surface. Xbox says that it's ok to stand vertically so i'm sure it is. Personally i have mine horizontally and there is hot air coming from the vent but the xbox itself isn't really hot at all.
