Now this might not apply to those of you in the US, but where i live prices are becoming ridiculous.
Just at the beggening of this year you could get a new release game for $100, but gradually the prices have been creeping up untill i was looking on a retailers site and they are charging $140 dollars for new releases. That sure seems like alot of money, and if you ask me i dont see much justification because as far as i know game prices have not risen like that in the US or any other big markets.
Not only that but you could argue you are paying to much for what you get, for instance Arkham asylum (it is a VERY good game and i do like it alot), when it comes down to it you are paying for i would say 8-12 hours of entertainment.

I dont buy games on release unless its an extra special game. I usually spend about £50 on a night out, so I wouldn't mind paying £50 for a game, that would be be around $80 I guess? but $100+ is ridiculus.

Really depends on where you go to buy. For example here in Australia EB try selling new releases for a stupid $119, whereas JB sell the same game for $79-$89. Although Batman was $99, don't know why.

I would think somewhere around that area, if i compare it to the US, their new release game prices are probably in the realms of 80-100 dollars in our money, i wouldnt be complaining if i were paying $100 full stop for new releases but the prices they are asking is unreasonable frankly.

agreed, I've noticed that they have racked up the price for Modern warfare 2. It seems as though now you can get a console for the price of 2 games these days.

The ds especialy, the games are only 5mb. and the ds hardware is pathetic for the price, i mean, it is ONLY just able to match the snes when it comes to power, with the state of modern technology, I'd be hoping to get a little more for the money :P

Your right it does but shops like EB have somewhat of a monopoly here, they own the other games retailer, and alot of other shops that give you the lower prices dont have a good rep.
I have bought games from those places and came home to find they were not in brand new condition, so i tend to stay away from those shops.

haha yeah i agree, DS prices really are nonsensical. And i bet for the price of MW2 i could see new release movies as they came out for a few months and the price might be the same.

Tbh I am now playing my PC more for games because they are cheaper and the DLC you pay for on console you get free on PC :)

Lets say I bought MW2 for xbox 360 , it cost £44.99, then if there was 2/3 DLC I would be paying £5 each so say £60 for a game. When I could get PC version for £35.99 which is expensive for a PC game too, usualy new releases are £29.99. So comparing prices I would save probably £20 or £25.

While I'm playing an MMO I dont want to be paying so much on my other games that I play less....

Only problem is (in my view)) that you have to keep upgrading your PC, which would be a pain in the A**

$140 is pretty bad. Where I live I never spend over 35GBP for a game, I guess that's around $65-70.

I don't buy games that are $50 and above. I wait for price drops. I'd rather spend $60 on something that I will never get bored of.

It's all about the exchange rate dude.
It's not like they're just picking on certain countries, demanding money they don't have.

Developers of these games need to be paid for what they do. They don't bring us amazing games like MW2 out of the kindness of their own heart.. It's their JOB. Half the money in their paycheck comes from the games. If they make a good game.. everyone eats well and sleeps happy.

But the exchange rate makes it awkward.
Games in the UK range from 40-50 on New Release.
After that they go off Supply and Demand.
If a game isn't that great.. The price drops to 20-30. If it is great.. It remains at 40 for a while, sometimes creeping up to 45.

If you take the exchange rate into account, you're probably paying the same amount as most of us.. It's just a higher number in your money and you're freaking out because of it.

Are they becoming too expensive for the average consumer to afford? Yes. However, development costs continue to rise hence why game prices are as well, so it is understandble. I buy very few games at their full $60 retail price as that already is near breaking point of myself not being able to afford them. If they get any higher, which most likely they will I will have to purchase all games used or after price reductions.

yup i wont pay 70 for a game so if prices go up in the us i will have to become a used only gamer and if they were ever to go as high as 100 or over i would just have to stop gaming in general.

The average price in Australia for a new release is $100 - $120. This is because we get two mark ups. 1. The cost to import from U.S. and 2. The retailers added asking price. Now, I don't mind the retailer making there profit, but here they are ripping us off! I won't pay anything over $80.

When I first got my 360 I was never paying for new releases (too much $$$), but now after owning it for quite some time, I've played every used game I'm interested in, and there's a lag between when I'm finished with my current game and when a new one I want comes out. I've basically played everything to death that by the time a new release comes out, I have to buy it for the full price. Plus, a lot of the good games I would want to buy never really drop in price that much- for example- last year fallout 3 was $60 when it came out, and over the next year or so, only dropped in price like $5. No sense waiting around forever...

Yeah, defintely. My last two new purchases were Batman AA and SBK Superbike, which were both $40 new. If a game is $70 I pretty much don't buy it.. it goes from being a possibility to not. My limit is really around $60, though I'm not happypaying that either. For whatever reason, that extra $10 changes everything.

I did buy one game at that price, which was UFC.. because it looked awesome. I never got my money's worth, really.. I should've rented it instead.

That's a bit much. I live in the states so 60$ each...considering I was paying 50$ per Sega Genesis game 15 years ago, I'd say 60$ for what we get today is a steal. We were getting robbed back then though.

I just recently looked through a old magazine I found and it was selling N64 games new for $60. After seeing that, I really don't care as much for $60 xbox games. =-)

Not at all. Look into how much a average game this gen takes to make, advertise, ship etc.. I'm extremely content with the 40GBP price tag of a new release.
