I have always loved these historical setting games. Something about them bring light to a fantasy world way before our time. The thing with the modern games is that it does not leave much to our imagination. A lot of what we see there we already know about. Yet with all these games set in 500+ years ago it really give us a sense of history.

But in todays world of ADD is that everything has to be modern because nobody has the patience, or desire to really expand their imagination. Its sad really.

I usually go for anything set in a different time period (past or future, I don't care much), or an alternate reality (zombie apocalypse, comic book themed games, or normal apocalypses work just as fine).
