Can't help but think Microsoft could do a great job on a handheld. They would certainly get the 3rd party support.

The 3DS and PSP have come up way short in my opinion.

a handheld gaming system by Microsoft. They could do a android Tablet running a version of windows. MS could actually make a tablet computer withgaming controls. Like the Wii Utablet controller, but with the power of ipad 2. Running Windows and Android. Microsoft could do this.

However they will not it is way too late for MS to make a handheld gaming device. I would have liked a portable Xbox but it is not going to happen.

It'd be pretty awesome if they did it right. They need a way to be able to play Xbox games on it as well as 360. Just make it play games, I don't need or want to be able to run some form of windows or anything else MS would want to throw in there.

It would be entirely unnecessary.

exactly. and it would fail horribly. The portable market is moving more and more towards smartphones and tablets anyways. I don't think M$ is even considering entering the handheld market. The psp and ds are both fighting for a small niche market. The windows7 phone is the closest thing M$ is going to get.

It wouldn't be a horrible idea, but they wouldn't have much to compete with in my opinion. The DS has no games of interest to me, and my PSP has been collecting dust for months because it too has no interesting games!

The PS Vita is being released soon, I love my PSP so I'm really eager to get my hands on a PS Vita. If Microsoft can come up with something better I would get it

I do think MS could doing something great in the handheld market but theres just no room left now for them now and most of what they would have to offer would be redundant. Also they also have to start dealing with smart phones which are increasing by leaps and bounds every year. It really wont be long before we start seeing console quality games on phones and some already look the part like Infinity blade. There are control issues and battery issues but things are looking better year which bad for the big three because they cant afford to compete with smart phones if they do take over handheld gaming.

Microsoft doesn't have the first party support for a handheld that Sony and Nintendo has.

While the concept has potential, they already have a hard time with first party support of the 360 and Kinect. (I mean they have 5 friggin studios) and it would just be a rehash of 360 games. I don't like handhelds that try to be "Me too" versions of home consoles. I'd love mobile Halo, but I'll be too busy with Halo 4 to care. Just keep making DS/3DS games (incase you didn't know, MS licenses out their IPs like Age of Empires for Nintendo games)

Give me Banjo 3D and I'm good

If Microsoft made this, and made Halo for it, it would succeed.

Non-children-oriented handhelds are really a thing of the past. The DS targets kids and... people that still think they are. The PSP has died, plain and simple. Tablets are slowly taking over the mobile gaming market, and, with all of the hype currently around them, a new handheld wouldn't be able to hold up. Now, if MS decided to come out with a gaming tablet that could run the apps on the Windows 7 phones (ie the HTC 7 Pro)... that could be pretty awesome.

Nope, competing with the DS costs too much and doesn't give a large enough reward
