I mean for real, now that HD-DVD is kind of doing better than thought they are in works with toshiba(so its said) on a 360 with a built in HD-DVD player, i swear a new xbox 360 is coming out every other month with a new option that should have just been on it in the first place, especially the HD-DVD portion. Do you think this will hurt MS in the longrun of future Xbox were people might no be so quick to buy until they are sure its the final product with all the bells and whistles

well i think it certainly will hurt hd-dvd and they should be infuriated, i mean im planning on saving up for a ps3 soon and i really am a hd-dvd supporter(mostly because i like microsoft and their affilliates more than sony.) but no that i get blue-ray bundled in with the ps3 i guess im converting.

I understand what you are saying but no I'm not mad. They were smart not to totally commit to a new format like Sony did. Besides I liked not paying for something I didn't want. Maybe they are going overboard with the varients but all I'm concerned with are the games..

If you haven't noticed, PS3 is also changing thier console every other month. You may as well be frustrated with everyone, though i do agree that it is annoying that they are adding features, and stickingthe original consumers with thier original bundle.

You can get mad all you want, if you were in Microsoft's position you would have done the same. It makes business sense. Back then the drivers were hella expensive to make now the costs go down so they can put it in.

People don't sell things to make you happy they sell it to make money

It would be nice if they were smart enough to ship the consoles to all gaming industries in 2004 to be worked on privatley for games without it being leaked over the net. Then have it make a final touching on what items there should be in the packaging instead of like now, making tones of different packaging, core bundle, console with 2 games, forza bundle with console, platnium packaging etc. Would be nice if they added blue-ray instead of hd dvd player and have the console launch out at 2006 near december so we'll have atleast 20+ hot titles and a total of 50 games and about 150+ arcade games to choose from. Instead of the original launch date of 360 in 2005 with like 2 games avaliable only.

Where is everyone getting the news that HD-DVD is beating Blu-Ray? I don't think HD-DVD has ever been ahead of BR in sales since the whole thing started.

Blue Ray has always been ahead of HD-Dvd. There might be a shake up considering Viacom is now only doing HD-DVD movies. But last time I checked Blue Ray is still loosing out to the trusty old DVD.

We should be frustrated with Microsoft because:

A: Those of us who bought launch consoles paid the higher price for systems with flaws.

B: New 360s come with HDMI built in, and new chipsets, and are cheaper.

C: IMO MS hasn't handled console failures well enough. I demand compensation for my loss game time!

Hardcore gamers line up, pay higher price, and the casual gamer pays less for the better product. This sucks.

No, I am not fed up with Microsoft. They are a company trying to make money and I chose to buy the 360 to play games on it and I play games on it and it's fair.

I'm not saying I like Microsoft. I don't like or dislike any company.

This is like being mad at Apple for coming out withthe iPhone. It is technology, and it's always advancing and changing based on consumer demands. Their just a business being a business and trying to give consumers what they think they want.

Sucks 1 of our 360s is in repair now, but I went through the same thing with the PS2 last gen and although I wouldrather see a Premium come down to $300, I'm just happy to see that they are maintaining the same price while trying to improve the system as opposed to cutting out key features with each new SKU.

Well of course, DVD's have been around since the early to mid 90's. Possible earlier than that. So that's a give in. But for *NEW* media, Blu-Ray is leading.

You're right. This is a lot like consumers jumping on Apple for the I-Phone. Well, then again, they have every right to.

I paid 400 dollars for my console, I expect the damn thing to work.

Microsoft: "Holy crap, a lot of people have broken systems."

Tech: "It's because they're playing it too much."

Microsoft: "What's the intended purpose of the 360 again?"

Tech: "To play games"

MS: "Ok. Lets let them know their consoles will break. Not all will, but only the ones that the loyal hardcore gamers have will. We will fix for free. They will be happy."

Hard Core Gamers: "We are uniting to conquer the United States and the rest of the free world. Since we do not have our xbox 360s to occuppy our super human intellect, we shall use the freed up brain power to conquer it and have the inferior beings submit to our will!

In a quiet little mountain town in Colorado... A little boy named Kenny McCormick was killed by a group of angry gamers.

Hardcore gamers are now bastards.

Cause the console would be selling like this: 119.4K (this month NPD's for the competitor)

i like the idea i didnt have to pay an extra 200 dollars for something i wont use (i. e. hd dvd) i mean in my area, none of the video stores even have hd dvds for rent much less a library big enough for me to go ahead and worry bout converting. im soo glad microsoft decided against the sony tactic of forcing its gamers to buy a new media format to try and dominate the new high definition video market (which sony did successfully with dvd and ps2) but seems sony was more worried about the blue ray than quality/quantity of games its releasing.

all in all microsofts decision to make different systems doesnt concern me with the library of games thats out that will play on ALL SYSTEMS that theyve put out.....if you want a hd dvd player buy a hd dvd player, im sure you will get more options and better quality from a stand alone hd dvd player than from a ps3 or xbox 360

All of this integration crap is just that, crap. I didn't by a 360 to listen to music or watch HD-DVDs, don't get me wrong here, if they want to throw that stuff in for the customers that is great but I bought a 360 to play awesome games.

They got it right, give gamers a GAME machine (the 360 or 360 elite) and THEN give those gamers a choice of extras. I for one there shouldn't be extras though. I am fine with having a console setting next to my cd player and dvd player. Maybe if MS hadn't done all of these multi-media options all of our old xbox games would be playable on the 360? Where does this end even? I forsee in 2012 the Xbox 720 being a combination waffler/potato slicer! Leave the movies at the door and give me the games.

The only thing that would tick me off is if they started making HD-DVD GAMES that required the HD-DVD drive. Then I'd be pissed.

If it's STRICTLY for movies and nothing else, then I go no problem.

Exactly. Im glad to see someone has some sense. It was increadibly smart to wait on the hi def format stuff. And remember, the 360 was released in late 2005...at which point not many people were talking about hd dvd yet. Not like they do now. It was also increadibly smart to try to keep the console AFFORDABLE. Look at whats happening to Sony.

Not to mention, if you didnt see this coming a year ago, then you deserve to feel ripped off. OBVIOUSLY it would happen eventuially if HD DVD catches on enough. Im sticking with my Premium. If HD DVD wins, then i buy an add on. Simple as that.

Not to mention, i can guarantee you right now that buying a premium 360 plus an hd dvd add on will COST THE SAME as buying a 360 with hd dvd drive included. What you think they will give away these drives in the 360?? So why all the whining??? haha

If its just replaces the old ones i dont care. since that would be a good thing, more would buy the system. I wouldent upgrade, simply becouse im all for the stand alone players.

'And this is a smart move on MS, as they might get more people to buy the 360. Also some might even upgrade there system for the upgrades. There no reason to get angry at a company simply becouse they are improving there system. If no one wanted to become better, I guess we would see the PS1 being released today, aswell as DVD.

HD-DVD Hardware > Blu-ray Hardware in sales.

Blu-ray Software > HD-DVD Software in sales.

Toshiba makes HD DVD, BDA has many makers of Blu Ray. (Sharp, Samsung, LG, Sony exc)

Blu Ray hardware is far more with PS3. Not counting PS3 where it is 53% market share HD DVD and 47% for Blu Ray (pretty sad since HD DVD had a 6monthhead start)shows how bad HD DVD is really doing against Blu Ray. Blu Ray outsold HD DVD 2.45 to 1 last week!If HD DVDis doing better for hardware salesbut has not won 1 single week in software sales since Blu Rays inception (53 weeks ina row) that clearly showswere thisformat war is going.

I think it is a great idea. The Xbox 360 is already a way better system than the PS3 and with built in HD-DVD it is going to be way better, but too bad games couldn't be put on the media. Now the only thing that is really dumb about the 360 is no built in wireless adapter, and $100 to buy one optionally seems really steep for what it might really be worth to make.

So, without a high def media drive built in(Blu Ray or HD DVD), not supporting a true High Definition digital connection initially, no standard hard drive, and far inferior sound (not supporting any uncompressed audio), you already pointed outbuying a wifi adapter for $100which is the equivilant to stealing considering you can buy a highendrouter for thispriceand the 360 has wifi built inanyway they just force you to pay more for an adapter, why would you say the 360 is a way better system? Surely you don't mean better as far as reliability, where the 360 failure rate is 30%+ and the PS3 is 2%. I am just curious. I own both, but I can guarantee you don't.
