i missed the first one in fact the first one i did play was Advanced Warfighter that was bundled with my 360 at release and absolutley loved it and cant wait for the new one. Never got round to playing the co-op missions as i most of the people on my friends list did not have it and coupled with the fact its very rare to get a good game with randoms.
Then you missed out, the first two ghost recons where a different style of gameplay then advanced warfighter. Not that I didn't like AW but I enjoyed the first two much more. for anyone who is interested you can Dl the origional at GOG.com (good old games) it's 10 dollars tho and no split screen so dunno if it's worth it.i missed the first one in fact the first one i did play was Advanced Warfighter that was bundled with my 360 at release and absolutley loved it and cant wait for the new one. The first Ghost Recon was so good because it actually required the player to use his/her brain. Most shooters now a days just throw hundreds and hundreds to just mow down. I can't wait for the day when the casual/arcade shooters are gone and these true tactical shooters are back. Sorry guys, but the new Ghost Recon, Rainbox Six, etc is anything but tactical.
Couldn't agree more. it's too bad the support for xbox games is gone.. or i'd say we could get some live coop going here! lol.The first Ghost Recon was so good because it actually required the player to use his/her brain. I'll relate my very first experience with Ghost Recon. I got the game for the Xbox after I'd been with the 101st Airborne for a couple months. I got home and cut the box out of its shrink wrap and those annoying security stickers. Then I opened the manual (or was it the opening cutscene?), and read the intro where it said something like, "...of the 5th Special Forces Group, known as Ghosts, based out of Ft. Bragg...", to which I said aloud, "5th Group is at Ft. Campbell, morons. They're right down the street."
That turned out to be a portent of things to come, as I didn't particularly like this game for a host of reasons. It's cool if you liked it, I guess. Although while people are pining for the long-gone days of "real tactical shooters," I'm waiting for someone to use the term "realistic" when describing this game.
Best gaming moment ever for me was on the original Ghost Recon (pc version).
To make a long story kinda short I was playing online against one other person I didn't know. We were playing Sniper Hunt (aquired taste, most don't find it fun or have the patience for it) set to one hour I think. About 40 minutes into it I saw him approaching the chalete I was in, so I went outside through the side door and across the bridge, midway across I stopped and walked backwords to the door again. I then went out the back door and up the hill were I had a nice vantage of the bridge. About 10 seconds later I see him pop his head around the corner following the tracks I had made. So anyway he walks out on the bridge scanning around and checking my footprints until they just stop. He stops and I can see his gun pointing down looking at them. Probably wondering how they dissapeared before the older ones would have. Anyway I can't take it any longer so shoot right at the ground in front of him to let him know he's dead. Nothing, he just stands there not moving. So I type him a message saying "hey you there?". Nothing. Thinking he may have gotten dropped and I just haven't seen him go LD I sit and wait a moment.
Send another message saying "I think you might have went LD, i'm exiting". Nothing.
Just before I was about to exit the game he types me back saying that when I shot the ground in front of him it scared/startled him so much that he fell off his chair backwords and knocked a bunch of stuff off his desk (it was a long time ago but I think it was his drink if I remember correctly). His wife and kid had been watching TV somewhere close to him and saw him do it and both were laughing so hard they were crying. He was laughing as well but had a mess to clean up.
This was by far the greatest and most entertaining time I've ever had playing a game. Yeah I miss the old GR. Oh and it's where I got the name rgsniper1 from as we used to play clan type matches and I was always the sniper that would go rogue from the group.
