Anyone else out there think that the hatred for Rare is unnecessary?

I am constantly seeing people talking about Rare games and how horrible they are. Now, I understand the fact that they haven't made games as high in quality as they did back in the N64 days, but that doesn't make their games bad. I think Kameo is an excellent game. It's got solid gameplay, strong artistic graphics, and one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard (probably my personal favorite actually). Banjo was an interesting take, but in any event, a very very high quality adventure. I think the Rare games add a lot to the Xbox 360 line up.

Anyone else out there agree?

Rare hasn't been that great since the N64 days. They've made Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, and Viva Pinata. All of those have been pretty meh. The best game they've made since the N64 days was Nuts & Bolts (even though a lot of people hated that game for no reason) and VP: Trouble in Paradise. So I can fully understand why most don't care about Rare anymore.

The core of the company that made the N64 games all left in the late 90s. What's left kinda sucks.

Rare's best talent all left the studio after the N64 days to form Free Radical. Without guys like David Doak in the studio, they're just another mediocre developer. Microsoft has come away with egg in their face after buying Nintendo's share of Rare for an ungodly amount of money.

Viva Pinata is "amazing" in the way that Space Channel 5 or Samba De Amigo are "amazing". It's an entertaining game, but it isn't the AAA-caliber game that Rare was known for in the 90's.

You're judging an old-school game by modern standards. Banjo Kazooie was AAA back when it was released. The problem is that games of that generation don't age well since it was the first 3d generation. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, DK64, etc. were all AAA games. Rare has never released ANYTHING that high profile since leaving nintendo. If you want to play a good Rare game, buy something made by Free Radical (where all their talent went).

I agree that the Rare hatred is a bit overdone. Their games for the Xbox systems have all been good (except for Party Animals), but none of them have been as great as their N64 masterpieces. I think that's what really annoys people. They can't top what they did with Nintendo.

Viva Pinata was ok, and I like the Banjo-Kazooie Arcade remakes, but for the most part Rare is churning out mediocre stuff. I don't hate Rare, they're just meh.

Rare use to be one the elite in the industry, everything they touched turned to gold, I don't think that Rare lacks the talent to still perform like that, I just think being under the MS umbrella hasn't provided them an environment to perform up to that level. Its funny too that people keep saying Rare on the N64, but Rare actually did thier best work on the SNES with the DKC franchise and Killer Instict.

I would like rare to make Killer Instinct 3 and a Banjo-Kazooie game that resembles the first two games from the N64. I'd be one very happy gamer if they did. :P

I personally have not liked any game they have made since they were bought by Microsoft.

I do, I know their games that are out now aren't at the same level of Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, and basically their best games ever., but I still enjoy the games they made on the 360.

Now where's my Perfect Dark 2?

I like some of their games like Banjo Kazooie and Conker, but they are incredibly slow at developing games and announcing what they are doing. For that reason i hate them.

Yeah Haze was a flop, but you act like that's the only game they've made.
