It's difficult investing so much into something and have it ultimately become obsolete by something better. Do you guys think the 360 should stay strong for a while longer or do you think it's time for Microsoft to unleash something new as far as a major next-gen console goes?
That's the way almost anything related to technology works, especially in the case of videogames. Personally, I've enjoyed this generation but the 360 is definitely showing its age and it's time for a successor.
Very well put. I think the concept about "investing in something that will inevitably whither" applies to most things.. It just sucks. I hope the next generation doesn't disappoint. I'm not as interested in the evolving use of the motion sensor.
Well, for starters it will be a new system. Why carry over achievments from a old console instead of having new achievments? Just doesn't make sense to carry them over. If anything, they should have your achievments earn you stuff. Like 100 or so Microsoft Points for every 1,000gs.

that would be a -lot- of money to give away, and there are people (like myself) who would rather have their gs continue than have it converted into some half assed reward scheme, as someone pointed out 6 years is a long time to be contributing to something only to have it reset for the 'new generation', i think that would put a lot of people off buying it at all really
I agree with you. But I just don't see it happening. You can't play a lot of old Xbox games on the 360, so why bother doing it with the next model? Same would go with gamerscore. It's based on the old formula, gotta move forward to the next.

It won't. Why would they? Um. It most likely will. With all the information stored on xbox.com they can easily transfer all of your data over. And for me I'm fine with the 360. Graphics are fine, plenty of games out there I still haven't gotten the chance to play, and I don't feel like blowing 400$ on a new console
I look forward to the new range of consoles as its going to be 100% pure eye candy. However I don't believe we will be seeing the new consoles in our media rooms until mid 2013 or possibly later as the current generation of consoles still have some bite left in them. With PC's significantly ahead in overall graphic grunt I wonder how the new range of consoles will peform in comparison to the behemoths. Only time will tell and I will fill that time eagerly awaiting any new announcements concerning the new generation of consoles and juicing the last moments out of my precious Xbox 360.
The 360 is starting to show it's age but it still has another year and a half in my opinion and with games like Halo 4 and Gears of War: Judgement plus other third party games it should be enough to carry the 360 through that time span.

I will second this. Achievements have been too good of a marketing strategy to drop entirely, and there'd be no point in implementing a completely new points system next generation.

id have to admit for all the work and fun involved to get the achievements it would be a slap to the face of some people not to, the least they could do for paying for XBL. and hope they dont drop support like a rock like they did for the first xbox. 48,616 GS and still going
