Best buy has a great deal on the Optoma HD70 projector.

it's a solid system, with hdmi and component hookups, support ntsc, pal, 480 -1080p

it's on sale for $999 before $200 mail in rebate, free shipping and it comes with a free 80+ inch screen.

i just got one, just wondering if anyone here uses one and how good they are? better to game on than normal hdtv's?

be ready to replace the bulb. It'd cost you around $200? forgot, but i remembered that it was pretty expensive.

i mean come on get a LCD tv, you can get a nice one around 37-40inch for $999

aSOUNDofREVENGE

that would be terrible

shooting game is actually quite bad if anything goes over 40inch because you need a really fast eye to locate all your enemies.

Have you even played games on a projector before? It's no different than on a TV, except it's bigger.

And yes TC I play on a HD prejctor and like it a lot more than on my 32" LCD (which I have now sold)

Why Yes. 108inch projection with my 720p Projector. I actually picked up the HD70 About 6 months ago.. A new bulb will cost you 400 dollars.. However this is well after 7000 hours. I'd hope that a person such as yourself could afford to renew a 400 dollar bulb in 3 years or so. People that gripe about bulbs dont/cant afford/use a projector. Its priceless to have it setup with a good soundsystem and watching movies. I am not sure how much the HD70 is, but the Mitsubishi is a bit brighter than the HD70. I have a regular plasma tv another room so Its best to keep your old tv. Just dont shine the SUN on your screen and you will be perfectly fine. I have the superbowl @ my place.

The best part is playing co-op multiplayer/split screen.. Each person gets their own HDTV to play on :)

The only problem is your eyes have to get used to such a huge screen... Seeing a little guy in the corner sneaking up on your base is simple on a 42 inch... but when you double that.. Its very hard at first.. but you will get the hang of it... It makes it feel a lot more like you are actually there :)

cheers

big plus is there is NO burn in. The HD70 Is an amazing entry level projector man.. Good deal.. I got mine for 1k minus the screen. I just have grey walls and it works fine on them. Enjoy it.. worry about the bulb when it goes out...

Remember depending on your setup.. You will have to mount it upside down. DO NOT use any of the keystoning features. You can, but you are just robbing yourself of precious pixel data :)

DO it. it's a good projector.

the ONLY thing that you need to check before you buy it, is whether you can see the RAINBOW effect.

Some people do, some people don't. i do, and i can't watch DLP projectors. that's why i bought a LCD HD projecotr.

but playing games and watching movies on a HD projector is the BEST way to experience them.

how did someone say it was better to pay 1000 for a 37 inch lcd than a big ass projector. what an idiot

i got a 42 inch 1080p plasma from panasonic that kicks ass but if id been able to have a setup for a projector id much rather have that theyre awesome

I have that exact Projector in my theater room. It rocks and you got a good deal! I will say, the PQ has nothing on my Aquos though.
