Anyone mind informing me on HL2?

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!)

I've never played the first Half Life but i'm about 9 hours into Half Life2 and I have no idea what is going on yet. All I know is that I'm a popular or important person running from these police officers, or government security personel, and simultaneously being attacked by insects and parasites. I feel as if I'm just going from area to area trying to survive, but I don't know what my main goal is...

will the game explain itself soon or is it like this the whole way? I don't want you guys to spoil anything for me, just tell me what happened in Half Life or what my main goal is...

You are Gordon Freeman. You were a researcher at the Black Mesa facility until an experiment went wrong and a portal was opened and the Combine and Vorganots came thorough. The Combine defeated the humans and put them into cities (City 17 etc) they also used headcrabs on people and that's were the zombies come in. Now you are trying to stop the combine with whats left of the resistance.grunt1096

yeah it never really does explain all the way through but you should be able to pick up bits here and there.

long story short you open a portal to multiple alien worlds(not on purpose of course) and they take over the world, you manage to survive the whole thing until your kidnapped by the G man(man in suit at start of HF2) and the where HF2 starts
