Im becoming increasingly concerned at the amount of threads posted about people having to send awayb there 360 cause of the '3 red lights'. Is this a common thing? I hope not. Ive had my 360 for two months now and have had no problems.

I think somewhere around 15% of 360's have it, so not too common

it isnt too wide spread although there are more then there should be... mine broke a while ago.. and the new one i got now... is **** up aswell... still works but freezes a lot... nd give me error e67 or something yet they insist its nothing serious (microsoft technical support) they are idiots... and also the **** thing keeps scratching my damn games... have the years warranty plus the extended 2 year warranty on it so im set... but i guess i just have bad luck... i

Well I have had my 360 since april of last year and I have had no problems. Out of all of the people that I know who have 360s I mean like 12 people including acquaintances, only one person had a failed 360 and his was purchased during nov of 05. I have two friends that have also had launch 360s and both are still running great till present day. To me its really how well you take care of your console. Whenever I see dust on it I always clean it. I decided on using a laptop cooler and its been good because I have never had overheating problems. I also spray the dust cleaner. I do it once while never too much. I just take extra precautions, and its been good for my 360. I think that hearing people on post talking about their 360s may seem that there is a higher magnitude of broken consoles, but just know that there are 10 million units plus out there, and gamespot does not represent the total population.

Not a big deal. Right? I'm guessing your not the one paying $139 for the new 360 are you? Yeah, mine got it last week though. And I definatlely think it's higher than 1 out of every 10.

And that's why you buy warranties for expensive tech pieces.

It is way more than one out of ten.  I'd say at least two, probably close to three.  I thought that it was overblown as well, but everyone I've talked to has mentioned something about their 360 doing something weird, and a few of those having to send their's in for repairs or have it replaced.  And now, of course, my 360 is broken and I have to pay the $139 for repairs.  And even then, there are a good portion of people who experience the same problems almost immediately after getting their system repaired.

To answer the original question, I would say yes, this is an epidemic.  I love the 360, I love almost everything about it.  They are just not as reliable as they should be.  Half as many problems as they are having with them would still be too much.

That's true without a doubt, I just doubted so many 360's would have the same problem when I originally got it. Every other system I've ever purchased has never given me a problem, untill the 360.

I wouldn't call it an epidemic, but man does it suck...

Got mine for Christmas, hardrive error.  Got a new, no it freezes up.  Man I'm glad I got the warranty.

I think if a store gets one returned they re-seal it and place it on the shelves again.  Cuz all of mine have been worthless pieces of s***.

out of 4 people i have talked to at work 2 have had problems with their system/s. the two that didn't have any problems got their systems less than 3 months ago. of the two that had problems one had the video feed die out and the other, who owns 3 360's (so he doesn't have to move them between rooms) has had two of them die out and are currently being repaired by MS.

like the guy at gamestop told me... just don't buy a used one so you at least have a decent warranty to fall back on.

edit: now that i think about it out of all the gamestops/eb/ebx/funcos i've been to (there are about 10 around where i live- im searching for some rare games). maybe 1 or 2 actually had their 360s up and running so people could play it.

34%??????????????????

I heard anything over 5% is unacceptable in product standards but 34% Holy crap that is riduculous.
I admit that is something Sony fanboys can use against Microsoft ones cause that is a insane thing and the fact that it too this long to come out with the move from 90 days to a year for the free warrenty is outright mad

I think the early manufactured ones had issues.  That is why m$ said they would repair them free of charge.  They also tacked on an extended warranty for a year just in case.  Mine was produced in 11/05 and kicked the bucket 3 days ago.  Called M$ and spent only 5 minutes on the phone.  They are sending me a box to ship it back.  Only hope i get it back by the end of the month.  I have crackdown pre-ordered and want Graw2 and guitar hero 2
