Honestly the entertainment value of them is worth it most of the time. Not too mention the games with awesome replay value. That makes it well worth it.
To think I remember when games used to cots $20 new and thought that was way over priced. Boy do I feel old...
It isn't cheap sure, but it isn't the most expensive thing out there, hell I go with the woman to buy things for the house, a damn coffee table averages 200 dollars, and to the poster talking about the 80$ pillows, any chance you work at Pottery Barn? The other day we were shopping around there and one of the items purchased was a pillow cover, 79.00 before tax.
So yeah, sure 60$ isn't cheap, but in comparisant to other things, it's decent.
i don't like how low budget games are able to sell at the same cost as big blcokbusters...a55a55inx
Same. Especially with the sloppy movie-based games
poor aussies
u guys need to come to the us or canada :P
so yeah games aren't overpriced imo
this only stands for good games tho, i woulnd't pay 60$ for too human for example, id give it a rent since some ppl say its fun but theres no point in putting so much money down on it. now games like halo 3/ call of duty 4/ gta 4, totally worth it and as a lot of ppl mentioned it actually comes down to being a pretty inexpensive hobby
In the UK its the equivilant of $80, consider yourselves lucky!hongkingkong
And my guess is that you guys get paid more (or a type of minimum wage is higher for you).It is just my guess and i'm not a UK expert (hell probably wouldn't even be considered a novice or the lowest rank there is... which may be novice i don't know) so i could be completely wrong.
it obviously depends on the game. there are some games I feel that are worth more than that (which calls for some limited edition love)
but for the most part, i don't think it has impacted me that much. an extra $10 from last gen isn't going to change much. if games reach past the $70 mark for a standard edition game, then I think there's something wrong.
stop being cheap, thats life.think of how many hours these people put into the making of the game.starfox2468
Yes and those games are usually worth it. It is the people who don't put the hours into the game, but still make it $60 that we don't like. Just for an example.... any movie game besides mabye Goldeneye.

i agree, why i wish "movie" games would goto 40-50$.but then again its smart for them cause lots of kids buy these games, and some others buy/rent for gamerscore haha.
Gaming is pretty expensive. Each new game costs $60. Even if you do a lot of bargain shopping, games can be pretty costly. PocketSled
Well, I don't buy that many games per console because I don't think that many games are worth the $50, even used I could only find GTA 4 for 50$.
For example my only xbox 360 game is Halo 3.

Do you gamers think that it is fair? And is the entertainment really worth that much?Jdog30

wha?go buy these games now
gears of war, guitar hero 3,call of duty 4, and grand theft auto.THESE ARE MUST BUYS,what are you thinkin, only halo 3?i understand if you just got the console, but if you have had for awhile, buy more games dood, seriously.
then go reserve these :P
gears of war 2,fallout 3,RESIDENT EVIL 5!!!(i want this game soooo bad), and fable 2
I jumped out of gaming back after Resident Evil 4 came out for the Gamecube... I watched as the PS3 and 360 came out and games went to $60 bucks... I decided I couldn't get into gaming since it cost so much(internet, controllers, DLC)... then I gave in when my favorite series(Resident Evil) was returning and gave in by purchasing a 360.
I still don't feel that games are worth $60(not all of them anyways), but I understand how the industry works and that it takes time to make games on these new powerful machines. So I only buy games I really want and play the rest at a friend's house or don't get them til they are used or on sale. Simple as that.

Then buy cheap games? There's tons of great games under $20. I don't care about the price because if it's not worth the $60 price-tag i can wait until it drops in price.
I think $60 is a steal. These developers are pouring upwards of 10M/more on a single game these days. They can easily charge us more, so I think $60 is ..... pretty, pretty good - curb your enthusiasmshaunchgo
One of my favorite shows.

Is this the new version of your "Do you play burned games" thread?
I think some games are worth the expensive cost; but there are others that are definitely not worth a $60 price tag (like the movie based games.)
With the rising costs of food, gas, student loans, rent, insurance, etc... I have been a little more selective on games I purchase. In the end, $60 isn't a bad price for games. You just have to be a little more selective with your titles. For some of the games I wanted to play, but didn't feel like spending $60 on them, I would rent instead. I have been renting more games nowadays than I have in the past. However, $60 isn't a bad price tag for a game you know you'll like.
$60 is a bargain... you kids should have seen the costs of gaming in the late 80s and early 90s... You are all spoiled by the PS2 generation.

I was going to say this, but he beat me to it. The price of a new game has stayed about the same for a couple decades. The most simplistic analysis would conclude that, given inflation, the cost of a new game has actually gone down over the years.
As far as gaming's cost, it's all about how much it's worth to you. Do you have to have a game now, or can you wait six months where it'll be $20 less expensive?
Also, most hobbies are expensive for young people. I loved Legos when I was a kid, and $60 for the big castle was a lot of freaking money. I assure you that, once you're on a professional's salary, the cost of gaming's pretty insignificant. It's outright cheap compared to a lot of other hobbies, like golf, skiing, diving, and so on. Wait until you get a little older, and you wake up with a hangover on Saturday morning, look at your bank account, say "HOLY ****, I spent $300 at the bar?!?" and think, "I should have just bought a new Xbox game and stayed home."

I was there for that and they were terrible, especially the accessories which many didnt even work, and during those times the internet wasn't as big as it was now and you couldn't see reviews for a game and if the game sucks, ex Wrestlemania for the NES, you wasted around 50 bucks on a lemon.
But back to the topic 60 dollars is a good price and many of the games I buy are used and I trade in games I dont play that much or didnt like to get new games, I think of it as recycling.
