Does anyone else feel that Microsoft are happy to sit back and take a small share of the console market ?

I really can't understand why MS aren't making a push for the mass market with the 360. I really don't believe that the 360 has much of a future unless Microsoft really push it into people's homes before the PS3 takes off.

Without notable sales in Japan the 360 has to continue to be the platform of choice in the west to have a hope of a long and profitable future. unfortunately as Blu-ray becomes cheaper to include in the PS3 and as the PS3 starts to have titles as good as or even slightly better than their 360 versions dominance will be much harder to maintain.

Personally i think they need to have Sold about 25million units ( sell not ship ) by the end of 2008 for the 360 to succeed and i personally don't think MS have the inclination to go after that many sales this year

What do you want from them... they have sold almost 20,000,000 unit world wide (sold no shipped... they have shipped 25,000,000+)... they can't give you the money and make you buy it... not everyone has $400+ lying around they aren't using to buy video games...

In modern countries like the USA and the UK... there is an even 35%-40% of the population in both countries that are below poverty levels based on income... that is 100,000,000 Americans and 20,000,000 Brits that can't even afford basic things without government help let alone game consoles...

360 has sold around 20,000,000 compared to the 11,000,000 PS3s sold... I think they are still doing alright...

With a 1 year+ headstart. And trust me you dont want MS controlling the console market any more than people want them controlling the desktop market.

But the 360 hasn't sold 20 Mil units it's SHIPPED 18million

Other reports say it's sold only a fraction of it's shipped allocation saying that they only sold 8.3 mil units by end of July

now considering MS's figures for December the year before was 10.3 i think we can safely assume that the sales figures are way off the mark.

What i want them to do ? it's simple , i don't want Sony dominating the console market, i think games were at their best when the SNES and Megadrive/ Genesis had near equal share of the market.

I think they have the games in place and it would be good for everyone if MS made sure that more and more people could actually play those games... the concept of a loss leader is a long standing tradition in the games industry and it's time M S took note and pile preasure on Sony to take an even bigger hit on their profit margin.

I think they need to advertise on tv a bit more because I only see PS3 commercials out the *** and a wii comercial here and there, but the last 360 one was the whole HALO 3 on monday night football. So if they do that then they're set, because they have the best online service in xbox live, great exclusives ( Gears, Halo, Bioshcock, Mass effect ) the future is looking good with GTA4 exclusive content and splinter cell conviction exclusitivity to counter MGS:4 and some other projects that have yet to be announced. And more I didn't mention. Gears 2 in late 2008 or 2009 anyone ?

You know, it seems that they've kind of given up with Japan (they don't show advertisements on TV or anything, unlike Sony with their godly propaganda and Nintendo with their cute little commercials.)

Well the 360 certainly has enough quality games on it for anyone in the know to want one .. i'm more thinking of the average Joe that likes games but isn't really into them .. most of the playstation generation really. We all know them they buy Madden of Fifa each year .. and then drop £40 / $80 on things like Spiderman 3 and are perfectly happy with it
