Okay I hadn't played Gears for ages until now as my friend recently bought it. Online used to be stop and pop, wait and cover. So I played about 5 games yesterday and hardly anyone took cover, people were just running at each other with shotguns. It's even worse than taging in my opinion. The problem is ruining the online so much that I've gone back to rainbow six. What do you guys think about this?
Just because others do it do not mean you have to. I swear I rarely have a shotguner reach me when I get my hands on a torque bow. Seriously, if they are shotgunning so much just go for the special weapons and have a field day. The shotgun is useless from far so make sure you down them or kill em before they get close enough to shotgun.

Ok, but wouldn't it be nice to play a game and use a weapon because you like it, not because it is horribly overpowered? For example, when I host with sniper I can usually kill 3 people per round. The shotgun is such a "roll of the dice" gun. You aim, and you hope you hit. You can even hit that person more times with the shotgun, and you can still lose. Recently I was playing and someone shot me 4 times with a shotgun at very close range. I thought I was dead. I shot and hit them once and they died, and I wasn't even aiming near him. My shot was more of one out of desperation than skill.
i have to agree with the TC.... when i first received my pre-order of the game and played it for the first 2-3 weeks straight it was the best game i have ever played in my life... the stop and pop, use cover, flank the openent to win style the online had was amazing... it was so much fun... however after i received R6V that was all i would play... i recently have tried to go back to Gears but every single time i play, it is a shotgun fest.... i played probably 10 rounds in a row last night where i was the only person trying to use any other weapon but the shotgun... it is really pathetic how most people just care about getting the W or the highest number of kills in the easiest fashion... rather than playing the game the way it was designed and meant to be played....
if you abide by everyones rules on gears you cant use: chainsaw,grenade tag, pistol melee, hammer of dawn, shotgun. this only leaves lancer, sniper, boomshot left. if its in the game you can use it
The shotgun is useless at long range. I just tag em from a distance with the assault rifle- *if* they get too close, just pop out the shotgun and finish it. It's not much different than Halo, except that cover works much better in Gears.
If they're coming after you- you have all the advantage.
The object of the game is to win, not to play it a certain way. If you want to have fun pretending you're a space marine using nothing but an assault rifle then the single player campaign awaits you.

Anyone can use a shotgun all you need to do is be host or be lucky but it requires skill to use it properly like me. However i dont purely use that weapon ill use the pistol and lancer from a distance and im good with a sniper.

It has never annoyed me. It's a weapon people, and it's available to everyone in the game, so stop complaining ! And btw, what's up with all this talk about lag in Gow ? It's never lagged for me.

I'm glad you made this topic, I thought I was the only one that couldn't play this game online anymore. The first month the game was out, the mutliplayer was the most intense and amazing online gameplay I've ever experienced. Since then, it has gone downhill fast. This ends up happening with every game. All people care about is winning, and they will do anythng they can to gain an advantage. Remember the "super jump" in Halo 2? Rather than have fun and play the game the way it was intended, all people online care about is getting those numbers next to their name. People will take the path of least resistance to a kill, which in this game is the shotgun

Even though I got them before they got me, whether I downed them with a sniper or used the Boomshot, I did hate them, and I did go back to Vegas also...weird..I might do Call of Duty 3 now too.

Seems like Rainbow Six is flawless by the way everyone is talkin about it...we'll see in about a month, everyone is gonna be complainin about somethin..maybe how a gun shoots unrealistically slow or fast, some guns are too strong and others are too weak..you know, the usual.
Here is the REAL question. Do you use regular tissues or the ones with lotion on them in the when you cry? I am so tired of all the people who whine about weapons in Gears. The shotgun is so powerful for a reason. IT'S A SHOTGUN! Sure lag produces annoying situations where one shot kills and strange distance issues can be annoying, but for the most part a player with the marbles to march straight up to you and nail you with a shotgun deserves a big sloppy kill because you were not quick enough to counter. Now I know your shotgun defense plan is probably flawless in your mind. But if you are getting nailed all the time with it, MAYBE YOUR TACTICS SUCK! Try something different. Get a teammate on point for you, move locations, take smarter shots, and (HERES A WILD ONE) PUT THE GD SNIPER RIFLE AWAY. Common sense would tell me that if my entire team was dead, and everyone on the other team was alive, something was missing. Perhaps teamwork and a quality sniper who actually cares about long range support and not achievements or kills. I can't believe that most of the snipers I have watched think that they can take on multiple enemies at close range with the sniper. There is a reason that you snipers are dealing with shotguns all of the time. Simple, SHOTGUN + SILLY SNIPER = DEAD SILLY SNIPER. Deal with it. So IMO, NO, shotgunners are not ruining Gears. People who whine because they cannot come up with new tactics to counter those who have figured out theirs are ruining Gears. Those who argue with each other for 10 rounds over who getting the sniper are ruining Gears. People who don't realize that you have to adapt your tactics are ruining Gears. If you are one of those people who love Rainbow so much, by all means go play it. I prefer games that take skill, anyone can run up on an opponent with the shotgun or frags, its like these guys don't care if they die as long as they get the kill. Yeah you can stop them but wheres the fun in the same thing every single match, this game has no strategic elements or tactics involved. This game is designed for casual players, and people new to video games, the hardcore shooter fans play R6V or counter strike. Nuff said.
I still think the worst weapon in gears is the Sniper Rifle. it takes no skill to get an active reload and in instant down. On the other hand if your getting headshot. Props to you, you got skill lol.

I agree with your thoughts that. Highliy skilled snipers deserve tons of kills. You will also notice that those snipers who are popping heads all match instead of relying on active, also support the team and are not plagued by shotgunners. hmmmmmmmmmm? And I think Gears takes plenty of skill. I own and play RSV but I play Gears more. Sure RSV has some good multiplayer, but the problems that people complain about in Gears are the same problems that people complain about in R6V. If you prefer one, play it, enjoy it, and stop whining about the other. If you want to blame the game for every horrible round or night you have thats your choice. I find it more productive to solve the problem by increasing my skill instead of writing a game off and saying that it requires no skill.
I do agree. No one uses the cover system anymore. Rainbow Six is a much better multiplayer game IMO.Etheral_Filcher
no one uses the cover system? you must be playing against people who don't know how to play the game. i usually play with my friends and clan, anyone who's not in cover will get picked by the sniper.

OKAY! THIS IS AN AWESOME SOLUTION TO THIS ANNOYING PROBLEM!!! DON'T HAVE THE SHOTGUN AS STANDARD WEAPON, MAKE IT SO THEY HAVE TO PICK IT UP. WEAPONS HAVE A MELEE ATTACK FOR A REASON. THAT WOULD FULLY RESSOLVE THE PROBLEM AS PEOPLE CAN STILL SHOTGUN, BUT PEOPLE CAN ALSO STOP THEM.rhys1elliott
That would work. But if you followed that method you would have to pick up every weapon and start each round with a stick because every weapon falls under heavy criticism. It is like a big cycle. I think it has something to do with the moon.

Err, everyone has the shotgun. You start with it. What you need to do is aim, not fire from the hip. And don't get into a shotgun duel if you have any red or you will get gibbed. Me, I prefer to get to midrange and use the hammerburst. They usually get excited and run up cause they think its a weak weapon itll usually down em.
