I an older player that doesn't play video games in my bedroom with a headset on. My gaming is strictly a group function when friends come over in actual person and want to play a game. Sports games are not an option as some of my friends are not simply not sports fans so what will be available in the future on Xbox One that four people sitting in the same room can enjoy? Xbox 360 had a limited selection of them but at least there were a few options, it appears Xbox One has ZERO non sports options so far. Is this just how its going to be in the future or are there titles that will become available?

I see the days of split screen are over. Nintendo is the only system I see that uses split screen on a regular basis. I have not seen or heard of games that use split screen from MS and Sony in a long time. One of the drawbacks of split screen is that it takes a hit in processing power to do it. If you have the game as an online feature, you don't have to worry that.

I really hope not, I'm not a big fan of online gaming and prefer splitscreen by far, there's something special on having your friends, family or significant other enjoying the game by your side. When I do some multiplayer, I mostly do splitscreen co-op with my girlfriend.

My wife and I play a lot of co-op games. They're hard to find but they're out there. Rayman Legends, Forza 5, Call of Duty: AW will have a full co-op campaign, Lego games, and Halo MCC. There's not a whole lot of choices right now. We are actually adding a second TV and Xbox One in our theater room so we can make our own split screen for other games with co-op.

Agree with TC. I wish there were more games out and coming out that allowed for sweet fun couch co-op. I really don't see it happening much in the future though. Somebody already mentioned processing power, which makes sense, but I think it's a money grab as well. If my buddy comes over and plays Rayman with me, he doesn't need to buy the game or even have that system possibly. If couch co-op is gone, then two people each need to have the game and console. Extra sales.

Yes, they are over. The new generation just started and I'm already proclaiming the splitscreen days kaput.

Au Contraire.

I disagree. I think this thread is too early to make such bold proclamations as this new generation is in it's infancy. The PS3/Xbone aren't even one years old yet!

lol FAIL

I wonder what other account you have...

OT: The last game that had some sort of couch multiplayer was Diablo III, and it was lot of fun.

I'd say it's not dead, but definitely dying.

lol. No, that was the joke. It was my funny way of saying this thread's point "split screen gaming is over" is too early. I liked the title had the word "Split" and it got me thinking of Split Personalities. Who better to answer about split-screen gaming than a poster with split personalities?

Regarding not many split screen options, last gen started the same way in 2005, but it's only because there wasn't much software. I added more humor to my posts by the contrasting 180 opinions. It was my first quote-myself-joke-in-these-forums, but I see it didn't play out as funny as I wanted, although you did say, "lol" so maybe the joke had some comical elements.

I must admit I did find that your almost brand new "June 5th, 2014 account" with a tiny 50 posts added to the comedy, imo. Perhaps bystanders will think you are my alt, lol.

Perhaps this poem will color my previous posts further:

  • Roses are red,
  • Violets are blue,
  • I'm Schizophrenic,
  • and so am I.

It was supposed to be funny and a sort of multiple personality joke, but I guess the context was in my head. lol.

I spoke more about my humor below.

OT: I feel this thread is too early and I think split screen gaming is still incoming. Last gen seemed this way at first too, but it's only because of the drought of software.

I disagree. It wasn't a joke; SolidTy needs help.

That is a beautiful poem though, even WE can't deny that.

@beutlich99:

I think the whole " it keeps people from having to buy the game and console excuse is bulls#%t". That friend that you will have come over to play on your couch is still going to buy his own co sole and game because he sure as hell is not going to come to your house every time he wants to play. It just saves the developers time and money when making the game. Its because of all these anti social snobby littles kid gamers these days that watch pewdiepie and play COD until their eyes bleed and talk sh#t to people that they would never talk shit to in person. They couldn't care less if they saw another person much less sat beside them and played split screen.

I have an Xbox One and a Wii U, and I recommend adding a Wii U if you like party type games. They seem to be the only ones catering to that market right now. I see potential in Smartglass based games on the Xbox where everyone gets their own screen. I think that would be great for things like trivia and card games.

@crunk3506:

True. My friend does have his own console and does buy his own games. I guess I should have clarified a bit. There have been games that he and I know are couch co-op games; therefore, only one of us buys the game and it gets played when we get together. I will be the first to admit that is getting less and less as our careers and families are expanding. A big part of me is simply nostalgic about the days when me and three other guys were in each other's faces playing something like MarioKart and screen cheating.
