Too Human? It's based arond the norse mythology, but with a futuristic slant towards it. Ittook me awhile to get into it but i ended up enjoying it hard!

I agree, it's unplayable without mods and you have to know what you're doing to get a decent variety of them.

What do you mean "doing it wrong"? I enjoy my heavily modded experience but by itself the game is garbage. and I can't imagine the casual gamer would spend as much time modding his game as I have. I'd really hate to get into this here though, derailing the thread and all, if you'd like a criticism of Skyrim feel free to shoot me a PM.
