XBL multiplayer gaming uses peer-to-peer networking primarily. That means one player is the host (server) and the rest of the players connect to their Xbox. There aren't many dedicated servers on the XBL network.

^yep, XBL uses peer to peer for playing games online. That is the main reason why I hate XBL. For a paid service, you would expect dedicated servers. Heck, they can increase the payments by 20 bucks a year, and I would still think its worth it for dedicated servers to play games. Basically, it is only the host connection that matters the most. The only time you use the actual XBL servers is when your downloading demos/patches etc.

Very good sir, there is less lag on dedicated servers but once they are down...they are down, they'redown for good.

I have a 4MB connection (I'm in the UK right now) and I can host and join and I don't have any lagging problems... I wonder if I'll have to upgrade to an 8MB connection when I get my second 360 in a few weeks time.

I have a 100 Mbps connection and i lag like crazy for some reason. :(hummer700
Are you sure that your ethernet cable isn't 100Mbps and you have slower internet? Because your ethernet cable can only push out as much as your internet can, so just because your ethernet cable is 100Mbps, if you have 2Mbps cable/dsl, then you're only going to get at max 2Mbps.

yes, xbox live servers are extremely better than ps2 servers. But apparently PS3's servers are much better than PS2's

Was that directed at me? I have Bellsouth 6.0 and live about 75 Feet away from the MDF, so I usually peak out at about 5.8MBPS with about 500k up. It's not too horribly slow =]

I have bellsouth too and I absolutely hate it really not worth the price but have no choice I cant get cable where I live. I cant believe the charge $45 for only a 6mbps download and 512k up.

That way, my brother and I can play against each other online, with our own screen.

The XBL system is set up better overall and maintained regularly. Also Xbox allows users to download updates when available, usually for free. I think that's why we pay.

I had the PS2 and played online constantly. There was almost always lag and people would glitch and cheat ALL the time because they wouldn't keep up with things and update properly.
