Im a huge video game fan like big, and im sure you guys are too. i love the fact how peoples opinions are so different, like some guy would prefer cod 4 and some would prefer cod 5, love to hear people justify there reasons, so on to more justification, properly a past topic, but i dont care i has properly not been seen for a while. but anyways im a gameplay fan, example bought doom 3 today played it thanks to compatability patch for my 360 graphics average , gameplay..amazing, there are so many reasons that gameplay is more important then graphics another example these big movie tie in games some of them sweet graphics and we all know the gameplay is going to be shocking lol.

so you a gameplay ]person

or

a graphic person?????????

Gameplay is easily more important than graphics. If a game has bad bameplay, but good graphics, how will you be able to enjoy the graphics when you're so frustrated? But, if a game has good gameplay, but bad graphics, you can still enjoy the gameplay and story without being frustrated so badly.

You need both for a good game. I think having good physics makes games a ton of fun.

Gotta be gameplay, but what really ties a game together is the story and individual characters. I like to feel an emotional connection to the game.

I'm a gameplay person all the way! Graphics are nice and totally add to the experience, but if the gameplay sucks, I don't care how amazing a game looks. I will take a game that has great gameplay and decent graphics over a game that has amazing graphics and decent gameplay any day of the week.

I can't imagine a single person choosing graphics over gameplay. Gameplay is essential to video games, while graphics are not a necessity.

Both. However if I had to pick...I could put up with a game whose user-friendliness was sour, but had drool-worthy visuals. :D ...but then we beg to ask what of the storyline :?

If it doesn't play good, it isn't a good game. This is the truth of it.

A game could look great, like Aion (An MMORPG from NCsoft)

But if it doesn't play good, like Guild Wars (Another MMORPG that NCsoft produced) it isn't as great a game.

The inner workings decide whether a game is fun or not. For instance, as silly as this sounds, anyone who played a Pokemon Gameboy Game as a kid (And had any form of determination) probably enjoyed themselves. Those games are simply sprites and dull colors, definitely not as graphically strong as say, Armored Core 4.

However, Pokemon was fun because of generally GREAT gameplay.

Armored core 4, despite a great look, boiled down to "Strap on the biggest gun, tap triggers, win."

I can enjoy graphics. I prioritize gameplay. All of us should. Games stop being games when they start being movies. (I'm lookin at you, MGS4)

Shadow Complex is an example of a Graphics enhanced twist on agreat genre BTW, anyone who ever liked a Metroid game will find it easy to enjoy Shadow Complex's gameplay, and the graphics are both nice AND even, in many places, used as part of the gameplay. (3d world, explored in 2d fashion, so enemies appear at times in the background, or even the foreground.)

I would have to say gameplay, but I honestly wouldn't buy a new game if the graphics were terrible. I mean, there aren't any current games I can think of that are REALLY good that have terrible graphics. Graphics are the point of sale to the customer. You see them on the back of the box with a little story, but you can't examine the game play. I have hundreds of retro games that you could say have bad graphics (by today's standards), and I still play those a fair amount, but yet I wouldn't buy Goldeneye if it were released today at with a $60 price point. What I am trying to say, and not doing well at it is that the days of really awful graphics are pretty much over anyway, so if something has great gameplay it's almost a given that it has at least passable graphics.

For me it has to be the gameplay. That's not to say I don't like nice graphics, but when I play a game the graphics tend to fade into the background after the first twenty minutes, so a game has to be engaging in other ways to keep my interest. A great looking game with poor or average gameplay won't impress me.

 id have to agree with you on that note. hell i could go back to morrowind goty if i wanted to and still have a fun. i dont recall ever quitting a game because it had bad graphics but excellent story and game play. by what every one is saying game play>story. the real question is game vs story line/plot

Gameplay and story, as well as realistic characters, are the most important. Although if a game has good graphics, it puts a massive blob of icing on the cake (so to speak). And getting it to shelves in a finished state is important (NWN2, anyone?). As well as good patches.

Gameplay is the most important, but if i was to chose between two games that have good gameplay like the conduit, and modern warfare i would chose modern warfare because of the better graphics. and thats why the wii is a bucket of fail.

Game play has to be the thing in mop cause the 360 does have its limets far as graphincs go. Unlike the pc where you can upgrade the graphic card to the latest thing. The 360 can't so graphics will get better as time goes along but it can only go so far. There are some games that look great on the 360 like Halo 3 imo but others not so great like Halo 1 but yet I still play the game from time to time cause I like the game alot.

considering I played atari games as a child...graphics are secondary to me. gamers nowadays are graphic hors. They pop in a game and dont even give the game a chance just because of the graphics...you know your out there. prime example of gameplay over graphics for me {GTA: San Andreas over GTA 4}

obviously gameplay is more important, but these days I expect a game to have pretty good graphics at the same time. If I had to sacrifice one, I'd choose graphics, because the game needs to be fun.

i appreciate both, games nowadays are expected to have good graphics but games like prototype which arent amazing in the visuals department are incredibly fun because of the gameplay and free nature of them. so i can have a different opinion for other games. for example i like my racing games to have good graphics just for the immersion but other than that i appreciate gameplay a whole lot more

I think many completely new gameplays require better hardware and graphics. E.g. I could not imagine GTA IV or Crysis running on low graphics. i would totally destroy the gaming atmosphere.

So I am not one of these Wiignorants who say that you do not need good graphics to have a great gameplay. I say graphics is an important feature of any 3d game. It is art. The better the hardware the more the developers can use their potential.:)

It's a good thing that most of the time you don't have to choose strictly between one or the other. Gameplay is more important in my opinion, but it certainly is nice to have great graphics along with it. I played the original Silent Hill on the PS1 earlier this year. The graphics were horrible by today's standards, and the gameplay was equally horrible on the old PS1 controller, but for some reason I couldn't stop playing it and I adjusted to it. It's a classic, and I wanted to enjoy it, and I did once I got over my prejudice. The feeling that it gave playing it and finishing it was irreplaceable and will go down as one of my fondest memories. I used to play D&D back in the day, and it taught me that imagination is very important when visuals are lacking. The way a game makes you FEEL is of utmost importance.

Both important, but the game needs to be enjoyable and not just look nice.
