Gaming is a more intense form of art than what alot define as art. Not only are you engrossing yourself in the trickery of the gameplay & the game mechanics, but the presentation of the "gamemakers" vision of "something great", easily can be more enthraling as a hum-drum life of day-in, day-out work. Gaming is a hobby, not the answer to lifes problems and truthes (people that say otherwise are A) paid marketing, or B) someone that truly believes in the folks of "A)". What I, me personally, want to measure myself to is the artistic (graphically) differences of all of us gamers. I'm not going to hold back, and hopefully none of you will either.

Artistically, this is what I personally prefer:

Couldn't you just have said you hate Japanese/Anime styled games and prefer more of the estern approach?

To sum you up in a few words: "i like realism, not a cell shaded art styles that portray anything cartoony."

Im guessing you won't like the new PoP game either? Seriously different games look better with different art styles. Like no i could never imagine Gears, halo, or anything else like that in cell shaded art style but i couldn't really see DBZ as something like realism either.

You hit the nail on the head. I prefer realism over fantasy. I let my little boy play games with "cartoony" or "fantastical" art. But myself, I like the realism. Do you have a personal art preference?

Bring on the cell shading. I love games like the Tales series and eternal sonata. Anyone can attempt to make a game look realistic. You just make it look normal. The color choices in certain games are what define it as an artistic masterpiece.

In another side, its like just filming regular people in a movie. Compared to say, what they did in Sin City. I just love the extra thought put into the "cartoony" graphics.

Don't get me wrong, I love the whole realistic thing, I'm not bashing it. I'm just saying the cel-shaded method is equally great.

I hate games with bad jaggy 3D graphics where no thought is put into what the system can handle. I'm looking at you DS and Wii

No I couldn't have, because regardless of popular belief, some Japanese gamemakers shoot for realism.

That's why Anime was included in my mention of Japanese style, I specified but whatever its nothing really. I'm actually glad you postes the first screenshots, kinda shows the wide range of "realism" some people go for. The differene between Splinter Cells realism and Mass Effect is pretty huge.

I guess my taste in artistic presentation is similar to the thread creator's. Although I harbor no ill will towards anime, I'm pretty sure I own not a single game in that sty*le. The cartoon-iest games I have is Team Fortress.

The cel-shaded "comic book" look of Crackdown would actually do more (imo)for a comic book super-hero game than what we have seen so far. Anyone agree?

I love the artstyle of games like Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia, the cel-shaded artstyle.
