avatars = bad idea

I can't believe Microsoft would betray it's functional dashboard design in favor of a Wii rip-off that is just another way for them to steal your money

I wish they would be based off of games

They should have made it so whatever games you've played you can use gear from it. Option of either being cartoony or more conventional. Then people could be creative and have some wacky looking characters. craigalan23

I was just waiting for them to whip out the motion controller after that.

The lameness wouldn't be so bad, if you coud indeed use in game assets from games you've played, though. As some of you have suggested. Too bad the ones you'd like would obviously be overused.

And, I've seen other people suggest using gamerscore points as the ground for what you can purchase.

Like, you have different brackets of what GS you have.
I couldn't see it as being a currency. People wouldn't give their scores away lol.
But, you have x amount of GS, you can purchase this **** And, so on.

Still not too keen on the avatars, and the whole dashboard update in general.
There's some cool things coming, but others I don't know if I'd be ready for.
I fear change. :|

There r a few good ideas in it, but i find it sad that its all connected to those lame childish avatars!!!

this is one of those few cases where competing with the enemy goes wrong! m.s. had no REAL need to change

xbl to stay ahead of the others, it is already so far far far in the lead that it cannot justify taking away a full screen

view of your dashboard blades for semi 3d boxes with a large part of the screen being wasted as empty background!

in the presentation they made the point several times that this avatar crap is easy and effcient. i cant believe from

watching that it could ever beat the current dashboard. it really just looks like a very bad idea that someone

came up with in an effort to get some of those nintendo $$$$$. m.s. needs to realize their place in the game

market and work within that space to improve and evlove. PLEASE STOP THE DUMBING DOWN OF THE

I dont know why they are doing this but I dont like the idea of making a little dumb person when I have a nice or interesting gamer pic for my name. I think this idea is going to be toss out before it gets ready to happen. GameMaster579

I have no need for it myself either but most gamers like the whole home and Mii thing on PS3 and Wii, if 360 didnt have such a feature then they would lose costumers for the most rediculous reason but it would stil happen. I just accept it and maybe it turns out nice if not then just dont use it.

It's more lame than gas prices. Nice job microsoft, you just stole a dumb idea from the wii and are turning into a baby console. Better be able to use themes still----$$$

I think many of you are placing far to much emphasis on the avatars when there are several excellent innovations built into the update. Sure the avatars are different and from what I have seen verge on cartoon like, but whose to say that is the only iteration available or that it won't be possible to make your avatar grittier. For all of you moaning and groaning, it seems that you haven't given any thought at all to the other features. How cool will it be to party up before you even start a game. And to be able to move from one game to the next without breaking up your party? I also think the 1 vs 100 might be pretty awesome. After all innovation is what drives technology forward and like I read in another post if there wasn't any major changes many of you would have whined about that. ksixftfour

The problem that I have is that the avatars are REPLACING the gamer pics. If that is the case, then yes I'll be pretty angry. All the avatars that they showed looked gay If they wanted to sell the idea of avatars then they should have had a little Master Cheif, Marcus Phoenix or Altair character or something.

You guys are silly are these avatars going to effect your lives that much? Or even your gaming? Really what were you guys expecting? They are trying to appeal to a broader audiance. We will still have the M rated games. Stop crying about it. Don't use it if you don't like it stick with your gamerpics. sonj

people have paid for there gamerpics. its not fair for MS to screw these people over. gamerpics are more mature oriented and expressive, avatars are corny. if someone can prove we can keep our gamerpics on LIVE please show me proof.

no doubt its cool to evolve but this is just copying an idea thats lame. xbox crushes nintendo in online gaming population. the nintendo is mostly an offline family oriented experience while the xbox got its fame for being edgy an innovative. yeah the WII sold a lot of consoles but xbox also crushes them with games sold per console.

alot of you need to stop you're complaining:

1. we still have the blade system

and 2. are the avatars REALLY going to stop you from enjoying the rest of what XBL will offer? im sure if these were as detailed as the ones for PSHome..you guys whouldnt mind at all.

nintendo and sony have both copied as well its a natrual part of the biz yeah it seems wrong but theres no honor there all they see is money. i personally dont care for avatars i have a wii and dont play around with miis at all but i now this small addtion is going to make ms so much money

u use achievement points to buy new clothing and accersories

well nintendo did it in a different way your not forced to use miis, in online games you dont use miis but the names of them , so ya, in mariokart , you do have the option of not using miis or using em to drive, unlike ms and sony, they aint used actually in the game, nintendo used them in a good way there for not being useless,

and i kinda disagree avatars are better then gamerpics, gta iv wouldnt fit me l o l
