Backwards compatibility is driving me nuts! I just bought MGS2: Substance because it was really fun when I played it way back when and I had a longing for it but it wasn't compatible. I am now wondering if all the cheap xbox games are at insanely low prices because of them not being backwards compatible... The same thing happened with Jet Set Radio Future and Silent Hill 4 when I bought those! Seriously though the PS3 uses emulators and those, of course, won't let me down so the Xbox360 could at least be on top of this.

there is mainly 3 ways to get a xbox game to be compatible on the 360, one is because they are from microsoft or from a relatively popular developer, two is if they are hype up game with lot of people playing still (eg. halo 2), or three, if you post enough on their forum about the game to make the game more demanding to get compatible. Either way, all we know is that the team which work on this is decreasing in manpower and budget as the 360 begins to pick up, you can still see ps2 game still coming out, but you don't see xbox game much now, because MS is fading out sbox, and they are trying to move the game that people play on xbox to the 360.

I looked at the list of Xbox games already finished and it just seems obscene that a game which was a land mark of its time is being ignored while every itieration of NBA Live or NHL/NFL/MLB and the like are compatible. Even more infuriating was to know that Barbie™ Horse Adventures™ Wild Horse Rescue

and

  • Cabela's® Big Game Hunter™ 2005 Adventures
  • Cabela's Dangerous Hunts™
  • Cabela's® Dangerous Hunts™ 2New
  • Cabela's Outdoor Adventures™ 06
  • Cabela's Deer Hunt™ 2005 Season
  • Cabela's Deer Hunt™ 2004 Season

(all from the xbl site of compatable games)took precedent over it :P

I geuss all I can do is whine and thats what I am doing..

MGS2 did not sell well on the Xbox, thus no sequel or prequel for Xbox or the 360. That's mainly why it's not backwards compatible, as for Cabela's Deer Hunt... it's Duck Hunt with deer, what's not to love?

If they would have made Jedi Outcast BC I would have been the happiest guy in the world. That was the reason I bought an Xbox and it would be nice if I could still play it on my 360. I still have my Xbox, so I can still play it. But still...

Microsoft has proabably one person working on the 360's BC support. And it's clearly a non issue at this point. Look they even tried to sell xbox games thru live.... and that didn not do well. Rather they have ppl coming up with stupid Gamer Pictures which they then charge their customers to use. They are clearly desperate for cash... no other company would even try this.

The reason there are things like Barbie and the Hunting games is because they have to make emulators for certain games, then sometimes the emulator they made will work for other games. They didn't make one specifically for Barbie.

There are already a lot of games on the BC list, and MS won't make any money by adding more games to it, as most games that will be played using it are either already owned by the person, or will be bought pre-owned. With MS wanting to retire the original xbox and only promote the 360, combined with xbox originals being made available for download (which they CAN make money from) I wouldn't expect to see any more games added to the BC list.

As the previous poster said - they don't try specifically to make one game work. If they find several games all don't run for the same problem, they will try to come up with a fix for the problem that gets a bunch of games to work.

do yourself a favor and buy one used. I picked one up for $50.

I can play my Warriors and Riddick again.

Microsoft did a decent job with the BC list, but you can't expect every game...

Original Xbox game prices do go up on the used market once they get BC. Whenever a new BC list comes out, I look at the games added and would buy them if I saw one that interested me for cheap. When JSRF went up, I bought it off a guy on half.com for real cheap. The next day he cancelled the order and relisted it for like twice the money.

I still have my old Xbox and will break it out once or twice a year.
