I was looking at the game trend charts for top 20 and I noticed something Bad Company 2 has roughly a quater of the users online as Modern Warfare 2 yet it has only have the amount of time spent online which would mean that users of Bad Company 2 are spending twice as much time online as Modern Warfare 2 users. That would lead me to believe that Bad Company 2 users are enjoying there time online more then MW2 users because I couldn't think of any other reason you would spend twice as much time online on one game over another. Though this could also just be because it was released recently while MW2 was released a while back.

(NOTE: please, please, please, do not start a flame war I just wanted to post my observations)

I haven't checked the validity of your "observation" but I definately spend more time on BFBC than Modern Warfare. I never cared for MW though, but this trend is also probably because it's still practically a new game so more people are going to spend more time on it.

Because the community is smaller? I bought both games, liked BC 2 a lot but I already found myself playing Modern Warfare 2 again. I just find the lack of maps in BC2 unfortunate...

Yeah, I mentioned it is probably also partially due to it being newly released btw heres the numbers as they are listed

MW2: amount of users: 41,893 time spent online: 563,642

BC2: amount of users: 11,621 time spent online: 232,517

Looking at that BC2 is roughly 1/4 the players with it being 44k if multiplied by 4 and the time spent online is almost exactly half.

this doesnt surprise me if true becuase while bfbc2 has rush mode which can literally go on for ages if you have two good teams,i find i stay in a good game of rush for a while because it is so enjoyable.

whereas mw2 has matches that last only ten minutes and just get boring...basically kill everthing and get picked for doing well by trolls...gets old my freind.

I don't quite understand how a smaller community accounts for twice as much playtime per person.

Well one match can take half an hour or more. So that explains the time difference. MW2 matches are a lot shorter.

Yeah that does make sense and probably does indeed make some indentation on the numbers but I find that a majority of users on MW2 play a few matches so it probably doesn't make the entire difference.

Bigger community = more people entering then just leaving, more skewing, etc.

He means there are more people playing mw2 thus, there is a higher chance of people just barely playing. which would "skew" or mess with the statistics.

Yeah. Its a useless statistic. Only the main FPS crows got BC 2 while over 7 million people got MW2, a lot of those people got it for hype and all that. It was the game you "had" to get.

I'd think by now though the random crowds of people who just got the game because it was popular have diminished and the people that are still playing would be the actual players seeing as now the must haves are me2 and gow3.

There are probably pretty close to 300,000 new players per month. It's still consistently in the top 20.

I disagree. I'm not siding with MW2. I'm not even a fan. But if you dont like MW2, I don't think you'll get it for the hype. People who actually buy the game, really DO like the game. Now, if this was their first modern warfare game.. I would agree with you.. but after two games.. with nearly 10 million sold or more for each title.. There seems to be a trend or pattern. Seeing as how there are billions of people in the world, and we can assume millions are gamers.. It's quite sustainable to see that these 7 million+ people do like the game and didn't get it just for the hype.

Maybe because MW2 is older so people play it less because they've moved on?

are those the stats from Raptr. Cuz if they are, those are only #'s from poeple who have an account on Raptr, not from the whole gaming community. While it can give a fairly good representation, there are no guarantees they are accurate.

I personally play BC2 way more, but that does not mean the same thing for everyone

you are right but I think that because the sample is very large it would be a fair representation of the two communities average playtime of they're respective game.

i kinda doubt that, on the xbox 360 alone MW2 has racked up 1.75 billion hours played online, thats 200,000 YEARS worth of online play.

not to mention MW2 has seen 25 million unique users play online and everytime i play online i see no less than 200,000 people online playing.

You have a point. I saw tha article. BC2 just came out too like a month ago. To say it has half the hours of MW2 is pretty hard to believe.

It is because of their game mode

A GAME OF RUSH CAN GO ON FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AN HOUR AND A HALF

So that is why...at times it annoys me

Probably something to do with the games often taking much longer to complete than MW2. I end up some horrendous Gold Rush matches with last second time extensions.

I think it has a lot to do with how much tiem each game has been on the market, but I have noticed that BC2 is a bit of a love or hate game.

id say its the nature of the game. You can easily spend 30 min or more in a single round of BC2. Most people dont like quiting early too so they say hey i wait to the end of this round and that could be 30 min away. You can easily be suked into spending alot of time.

That's exactly what happens to me. Battlefield is much more involved game in battle. I was in a conquest match last week that lasted over an hour.

Players are probally playing Bad Company 2 more because the game is newer, the game modes themselves actually take more time to complete especially two fairly even teams playing Rush mode, and most importantly because alot of fans are just so tired of the cheap deaths and unbalanced gameplay that MW2 seems to offer. I love both games and I like the variety they both bring to the table but after an hour of MW2 I have had about as much as I can take. So sick of shooters guys to watch them run through my bullets and do a freaking melee attack thats like ten feet away and kill me. Just the other night I played a match and nearly every guy on the opposing team was using a riot shield. Yes, their are counters for that but still, it was pretty annoying. Nothing worse that several players on an opposing team calling in mulitple airstrikes and car packages. I could go on and on.

I love both games and I know alot of fans who feel the same, but lately I just find myself compelled to play BC2 more. I feels less cheap and more rewarding in my opinion.

thank you brother for seeing the light. im not bashing BC2 because i like it, but people on here act like its the best thing since sliced bread and its not. On topic, it takes a little longer to play a game of rush than it does to jump in and out of team deathmatch on MW2, so thats probably why

I'm not talking about total time I'm talking spefically about last month and even more specifically a sample of 11k bc2 users and 41k mw2 users in which on average the bad company 2 players spent twice as much time online per person for that month.

I actually can't stand people that have played it for more than 40 hours. Rank 25+, they are mainly annoying campers who sit in vehicles the whole game.
