Microsoft should've released it back in September. Some of my friends didn't buy Halo 4 because BLOPS2 was around the corner. I imagine many other people did the same.
Thoughts?

I don't think it was. Both are brand names that people will buy for just that reason. If people want to buy both, then eventually they will.
Except that Black Ops 2 made $500 Million in just 24 hours while Halo 4 only got $220 Million. Not trying to bash Halo here, as I am a fan, but come on.. how is Halo 4 impeding on CoD's performance? They had the highest pre-orders ever as well as the most day 1 sales ever. Halo 4 didn't even scratch CoD.If anything it was bad for CoD to release at the same time as Halo 4.

....and you're forgetting that CoD is multiplatform.

While Black ops 2 is for ps3, wii , wii u, xbox 360 etc. So if hallo made That much for just a single platform then it did pretty good.If anything it was bad for CoD to release at the same time as Halo 4.

This seems more accurate.
Surely it depends on the extent to which the pool of buyers overlap? Most of my friends tend to gravitate to one or the other - very few invest a lot of time in both, so consequently the COD gamers didn't care that Halo had just come out, and the Halo players wouldn't have bought COD anyway. That's just the people I know - but they can't be that unusual.
Personally, I bought Halo 4, am playing it to death and loving every second. I'll pick up CODBLOPS2 when I've got one evening spare to blast through SP campaign - just like I have with every one since MW2.
