Batam Arkham City Limited Save / Checkpoints?...

Just started playing, great game, but not liking the save option...or lack of. After the first mission I fought a lot and leveled up, then exited. Went back and all the leveling up was gone. It jumped back to the latest checkpoint.

Does a real save open up as you advance? How do you get the game to save? Or does it only save after a checkpoint? It seems a game that is this wide open, and so many sidequests, would only save after a story mode checkpoint would be very limiting.

Any ideas?

that sounds wired but. there are probablly some save spots or something.

As far as I can tell there are only auto saves. When you want to save, walk into a building or grab a Riddler trophy. Those are both methods I use.
