About an hour ago my 360 got the 3 red rings of death. But I have a best buy replacement plan and I was wondering how they deal with that in the store. I have a premium so I would prefer to keep my hard drive so do they let you do that or am I just screwed out of my game saves and arcade games? Does anybody have experience with best buy and the 3 rings?

yes, i've done it before, i'm not sure if it's any different in your 2nd year of the warranty, but it is for the 1st.

You can take your hard drive and switch it, unless if you get some complete dumbass who doesn't know anything about best buy or anything else related. I had a girl at the counter and she seemed like she had done it all before so it was real quick and easy..and when i asked to switch the hard drive, it was no problem. So yea it's real simple just go in there bring the 360 and replacement plan booklet up to the counter, they'll scan it and make sure it matches, then they tell you to grab a 360 that matches your model. You go over grab a 360 if they have one in stock, then they check to see everythings in both boxes, and then they switch the hard drive if you ask..real easy.

I had the same thing happen to me. Just bring in your console, and nothing else. They will let you keep your HD(they switch it out with the new one) and give you a brand new 360, and you are ready to go. It's a lot better than sending it in to Microsoft and waiting for a long time. Basically whatever(controller, power source, and component cables) you bring, they'll switch it out. I got a new 360 and then a new controller 5 months later.

I have a question. Say you made use of the warranty this one time and a year or so later your new 360 breaks down again. Can you swap it out at Best Buy again under their warranty? or is the swap out a one time only thing?

As long as your under warrenty you can swap. If they say no what you do is you argue with them. Tell them your a loyal customer and what not.

Oh okay. I've asked that to the employees many times in the past and could never get a straight answer from them. :?

I actually just got back from Best Buy and they said that I have to send it into Microsoft because it is a manufacter defect and the replacement plan does not cover that.

So tomorrow I am going to a different Best Buy and try to get my new xbox.

That sounds like a bunch of bullplop on BB's part. If it doesn't cover the red rings, then what the heck does it cover?

Damn, I would have raised hell. If it breaks from a hardware defect, it's broken. I've switched mine out many times. You can get it replaced as many times as you want in the first year, then only once in the second year. They will then give you the option to renew your warranty.

I would have argued more but they were out of stock of the premiums so I just left after telling the guy what a f-ing rip off the replacement plan was and how I wasted $50 for nothing.

has anybody sent away for a voucher instead of dealing with it in the store? If anybody has, how long did it take to get the voucher?

I have thought about it before, but I never did. I have been through quite a few consoles, and I was just going to send it away and get the gift card to buy something else, but there are too many games I want for Xbox 360, so I can't give up on it.

yeah i want to keep my 360 but if i can get a gift card for $400 and just buy a premium for $350 and have the $50 left over I might want to go for the voucher instead. I'm guessing if I go in the store, they will just replace my 360 and I will be out the $50 difference.

Now that the new premiums come with HDMI; say I went to the counter and told them that my old premium was frezzing up or not starting at all, basically that it was "broken," do they check it or is it pretty much they take you at your word and let you exchange it out. This is a hypothetical question just incase my 360 some how "broke."
