Best Buy warranties suck. I took my 360 back yesterday because the disk drive was making noise. They said it wasn't a repairable item and they would give me a new 360, but I would have to repurchase the extended warranty if I wanted it on the new 360. So I told them well just give me my money back. (most other stores transferee their warranties if they have to replace the product, so I figured if I'm going to have to re-buy the warranty I would do it at a place that wouldn't pull this crap on me.) Well gold old Best Buy said they could only give me in store credit, so I ended up getting another 360 from them. The good thing is it came with Froza2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance and it hasthe HDMI like the Halo Edition and the Elite and was built last month. BTW it runs a heck of a lot cooler than my old 360. I figured today I would call Best Buy's head office andgripe a bit and see if they can do something for that the local store wouldn't do.bcrich959
I bought an Xbox 360 in Dec of 2006 from Best Buy and bought their extended 2 year warranty. I finally received the 3 red lights on Saturday night. I have my voucher and went to the website to file a claim. They said they will e-mail me a shipping label to send my 360 to them. They said they will send me a gift card when they receive my 360. I thought if I had this warranty I could just take it back to the store. Evidently I thought wrong. Is this a one time cash-in warranty like EB games? Also, what about my hard drive? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!kickthecann82
I dunno why they tell you thatyou have to mail it in. The warranty receipt says the same thing (or at least minedid). I took it back to the store though and was given a new one immediately. I knowpeople who have done the same thing as well with no hassle. I was also told (and it seems like I read it somewhere) that you can take it back as many times as neededduring the warranty period. You can also buy another onewhen the current warranty expires. Downside to taking it back though is that you lose yourHDD. They took mine anyway.

I work for a Best Buy in FL
YOU KEEP YOUR HARD-DRIVE!! :D
Its entirely up to you. Just ask.
PRP can be done in store or through 1-888-BEST-BUY
When I called the 888-BEST-BUY, when this happened to me, they told me that there is a 3-year warranty on the 3ROD and BEST BUY will do an even swap and your PRP warranty will carry over.
Best Buy is the BEST.
If you mail your 360 in you can NOT keep your hard-drive.
I am unable to EDIT my messages because Gamespot's forums are broken. So I have to keep posting. ;)
ADMIN!!! Get off your *** and fix the site. You bums
My impression when i got the Best Buy warranty is that it was redeemable for 2 years no matter how many times you had to return the product. This is the reason I got the warranty in the first place. I'm on my fourth 360... one I exchanged the warranty at EB (which I should've learned the first time not to buy a disposable warranty) the other 2 I mailed into Microsoft. That's what I thought also. I'm curious, how many people here have used a Best Buy warranty and received a new replacement and did not have to repurchase the warranty? I would really like to know, maybe it will help my case when I call and complain.

Well, like I said above, I asked if I had to buy a newwarranty and they said 'no'. I could bring it back if itbroke again and get it replaced under the original warranty.
The Best Buy replacement warranty is actually pretty good for the 360, but you have to go to the store to get the full effect. If you call the number, they're gonna send you the shipping label, etc. like you had happen to you. If you go into the store, the store will call the phone number themselves to get the RMA number so they can send it back, but they will give you your replacement right then. Long story short, goto the store, don't call in.
As for the part about buying the new warranty, you don't have to buy a new replacement plan until the manufacturers warranty runs out. So after your first year (360 warranty is still 1 year, it's only 3 years for RRoD), if you used your replacement, the warranty is fulfilled and you're able to buy a new plan if you want.
