Hey, just got an HDMI cable to use with my 360 and I was wondering about some stuff.

First of all I've set it up to 1080p and my TV does support that resolution (I've got a 32'' Samsung HDTV and I believe it does support that resolution). Now I see new options opened to me: Reference Levels and HDMI Color Space. I'm a noob in HD display options so I was wondering which settings in these 2 options can give me the best possible display for my 360?

Thanks in advance.

I have the reference levels on normal. I read up on this somewhere. The 360 just moves colors from 16 to 22 or something. It was to do with a color chart. Anyway, using expanded resulted in crushed blacks. The other option I have selected source. That way the 360 selects the correct option for the media you're viewing.

yeah but if you have your tv calibrated for standard or limited rgb, putting it on source could make the console select the wrong color space, resulting in a comprimised image, crushed blacks etc. its best to just use standard and 709.

I need some help on that.I have reed that the "Reference levels" is better on expanded, better colors and detail, only the new HDTV can support that. But i don't know what to do on "Menu HDMI color Space"......what is the best for that..??Auto, Source, RGB, YCbCr709 or YCbCr601..??I have reed that it is better to left this on Auto and that YCbCr 709 is for HD i.e. anything 720p and above and this will give better results on certain displays..Doesn't the Auto selection for HDMI colorspace automatically select what's best for you?And what about "display discovery"...on or off..??

No one (outside of a professional that you pay hundreds to) can do the settings for your TV but you

Go buy or rent a calibration tool

AS SEEN HERE, PICK WHATEVER FORMAT YOU'RE TUNING FOR

Calibrate the TV and then you have the best picture possible

Do NOT listen to anyone that says "oh try these settings" because they will not work. Calibration is different between brands, models, and even production runs of the same sets

Also be aware that all inputs on TV's aren't created equal. You'll want to calibrate each input separately instead of just taking one set of settings and pasting it across all TV options

Anyone can help with that...??Panosola
Here's what you do. Try them all and then pick the one that looks best to you. It shouldn't be difficult to make your own decision instead of relying on others.

If you have a 720p tv it will look better on 720p all the time, use whatever is your tv's native resolution. It doesn't matter what resolutions your tv supports, only it's native resolution. Check the manual.

99% of the games on Xbox360 are rendered at 720p (or less) so, at least in the cases of 720p native rendering, setting the console to 720pseems the most logical choice for optimal IQ.

Well, i got a SOny Bravia 32inch 1080P TV, and the XBOX 360 allows me to choose "Optimal" in the settings menu. When i select Optimal, my tv goes into PC mode, and the resolution on the screen, is that of my tv 1360X768. The picture coming from the 360, looks like as if i have a pc hooked up, it's perfect, perfect color, smooth edges on the word, and the games, Wow..... they look just amazingly crisp. But when i try out the 1080P option, the graphics in games look like a clean component cable hookup, blacks are thick, and color a bit too vibrant, and you can see edges "aliasing" on characters and things.....

So i would choose Optimal if you have the option, and use "Expanded" for the reference, because that is for LCD TV's that have PC Inputs like vga and dvi in the back of the tv, and for LCD computer monitors. =D.
