there is no BEST guns. They all depend on your playing style and how comfortable you are with each. I like the MP5 but i know some that dont. Its each one to their own.
Assault= m16 SMG=p90 Sniper=barret 50cal LMG=m60 shotgun= the non automatic one of course these are all debateable however i use the m16 with stopping power and i usually end up with at least a 3 to 1 kill to death ratio i have even been in a full game freee for all and one 25 kills with 5 deaths.... everyone thought i played to much but in reality i have a job wife kid etc... not much free time but i am just pretty good at game especially FPS

In my opinion there is not a single best gun, I suppose there are certain guns stronger than others for each class but really it just comes down to your playing style. In the submachine gun class A MP5 Is more powerful than a P90, But a P90 holds more bullets in a round and shoots quicker. But you'll find that either can win. :)

Exactly. Although there are guns like the Uzi and W1200 which have really no point using. Uzi has less damage, more recoil, smaller clip size than the P90. So it's pointless. W1200... don't even get me started on this lol

i like the ak47 for its versatility. also, like a few others have already said, the m16 is ridiculously overpowered and cheap. i hate people that use that gun and think they're good. you can hit someone with like 2 bullets in the pinky, and they die instantly. there are a few other guns that are overpowered as well, but the m16 is by far the most overpowered.. its just stupid.
THe best gun in the game is the M16, it is a 1 burst kill and is the most used gun in the game because of the 1 burst kil, and is just by people who think they are good at the game. But my favorite guns are the M4 Carbine, AK72 U, and the R700.

but funnily enough only one barret rifle is in CoD 4 I'm a gun nut. I get kinda peeved when people mess up info about firearms. The model in 4 is an M107, just thought I'd get that out there. It's kinda like people saying Deagle. It's the Desert Eagle people not a retarded dog.

Wasn't the one in CoD 4 the M82? They M82 is an older model replaced by the M107. Kinda like the AK74 and all later variations are just AK47's with upgraded parts to make them better. The M107 is the model that was adopted by the US Army.
Since I only play Hardcore, I'll give you some of the best combinations, (since guns themselves are not the way to win): M16A4 with Acog - Bandolier, Double Tap, and Steady Aim Scorpion with Red Dot Sight - Bandolier, Sleight of Hand, Steady Aim G3 with Red Dot Sight - Claymores, UAV Jammer, Extreme Conditioning M21 with Regular Scope (and USP pistol) - Claymores, UAV Jammer, Iron Lungs
