Well Mass Effect is you know futuristic and only 20 bucks while Oblivion is Midevil Middle Earth-ish times it really depends on which of those time periods you prefer. Guns and grenades or swords and shields.

I think Oblivion is better for the gameplay style, Mass Effect is good though, but it's a lot of movie clips and talking. Oblivion is more killing, so which ever you prefer.

Oblivion and Mass Effect are both excellent choices. You definitely need to give Oblivion a chance though, as it's definitely slow to start. It really sucks you in you let it. I just beat it recently, my final save was 104 hours and I still feel like there's a LOT in that game I didn't get around to doing. Mass Effect is amazing in a different way. It's got a great story and the dialogue feels much better than in Oblivion, but it's also a shorter experience. Both are fantastic though. Lost Odyssey is actually $19.99 used at Blockbuster, you might be into that if you enjoy the Japanese style RPGs. I'm currently playing through it now and it's the best JRPG I've played since Chrono Cross.

Oblivion will give you instant gratification and is fun right from the start. Mass Effect requires a bit more patience but is the more rewarding experience. hope that helps

Oblivion is the best rpg on the 360, and Mass Effect is a game that everyone should play. You can't go wrong with either.

Pretty sure Eternal Sonata is under 25 bucks now. Certainly another option for you to consider.

Cookigaki thinks you should get mass effect. Cookigaki just couldn't get into oblivion.

Oblivion is quite possibly the best RPG ever made and you can get it for under $20 new or used. It will keep you occupied for over 100 hours

Scrounge up 5 dollars more and get Tales of Vesperia. You will not be dissapointed! It's been 60 dollars for so long and they just recently cut the price in half. If you can't get another 5 I suggest Oblivion I guess. :(

I thought Oblivion was rubbish. I played until I closed the first Oblivion Gate (that's like beating the first level or whatever) then I gave up because it was the exact opposite of fun. But tons of other people think it's the sh*zzle. It's fantasy genre so you're using magic and swords and what not. Mass Effect on the other hand is just about the best game I've ever played. I've beaten the game at least four times and I'm about to start my fifth playthrough. Plus, I think it's a deeper RPG experience because you can take your save game data and have the decisions you made in your playthrough apply to the story of the sequel. So for example, if you chose to let an NPC die in Mass Effect 1 he'll still be dead in Mass Effect 2. But if you decided to let him live and arrest him he'll be in jail in Mass Effect 2. Finally if you decided to let him live and let him get away he'll still be at large in Mass Effect 2. It's sci-fi so you're using science based skills (in place of magic) and guns and what not. You can get either for under $20. Off topic: Really Gamespot? You're going to censor both sh*znit and sh*zzle? Is this website strictly for 8 year olds now?
