Battlefield 1942! Battlefield:2 (PC, not that Modern Combat garbage), Goldeneye 007 and the original Halo. Honourable mention to the Socom series also.
It has got to be Call of Duty 4, Left 4 Dead is good too, but I consider it more of a strategy game.BHbyNATURE
left 4 dead a strategy game? lol yeah i guess it takes some strategy, but its one of the fastest run and gun shooters out there. anyways, yeah i have alot of memories of the original halo. i still remember the first time you get to see the flood. i still have fun goin through that single player. and my other one i guess has to be COD4, since im still playing it nearly every day. i also like the old gradius games on SNES.

Left4Dead? Shooter? Not enough guns. It's its own Genre. Which is 'Run like hell for a safe room'. I can't call L4D a shooter because you can use greifing to go a whole level without firing a round. I didn't beleive it myself until my brother proved it.

These are horrible criteria. First, how many guns is a shooter required to have? Secondly, because you can use griefing to abbreviate a level, that makes a game not a shooter? You know I can noclip to the end of every level in most every shooter. Hell, speedrunners can do it without noclip. That disqualifies all sorts of shooters...from being shooters.
Let's see here: Doom has six guns, and I can play it other than the way it was intended to get to the end of the level. Doom must not be a shooter. Well done.
No shooting through a level in current games like Halo 3 and CoD5 seem neigh impossible. I probably should have compared it to those outright to point out the kind of shooters I play that I might compare a new shooter to. my post sounds especially stupid upon rereading. The not enough guns thing was just a stupid joke. I don't care if a shooter has two guns as long as it would keep me playing because it's awesome. It is born from the fact that a lot of the people I was playing with just after the release kept saying it, hell even I said it a few times. Although I would rather have bats and crowbars. For abondoned cities and towns, there is an awfully large amount of heavy firepower and a strangely small amount of things to bludgeon with. I see and play L4D as a survival game with shooter as a sort of side thing. I suppose the fact you are giving way more ammo and weaponry then you should find trying to survive tilts it to the shooter side, but it still just doesn't ring as a normal shooter shooter in my book because the games I have played to define normal shooter for myself seem completely different. Also, by greifing I refered to the small exploit were switching weapons and hitting the melee repeatedly will cause an immposible to penetrate wall of fists in front of you. Which is used to speedrun. You are awfully good at making me feel like an idiot. My entire post was maybe semi-serious to a complete joke. I didn't expect any serious reader to think I was serious reading it through. Actually. I never thought I would have to think about that post ever again.
