best shooter single player

what do you think are the shooters with the best single player on 360

for me:

1)Half Life 2 (Orange Box) was just a great single player game

2)Call of Duty 4 the single player although short was awesome and a fun challenge to get the mile high club

3)Gears of War pretty good but was awesome with a friend

another would be Halo 3 but only if you had 3 friends with you. otherwise i thought it was pretty mediocre

Id say COD4 unless ur goin through Halo 3 with a buddy or two. Then id say halo 3 takes it

I am surprized noone mentioned the most obvious shooter. Halo3

Thats funny, because I enjoyed Halo 3's single player. I was more bored by Mass effect... mostly after roaming around lost... and visiting lots of planets with seemingly nothing to do. I won't go to deep into that unless necessary.

half life is overrated it is a good game it's just not THAT great

for it's time it was a good game but now..........

Those are unconventional choices. In my opinion, both Oblivion and Mass Effect are RPGs. They're RPGs that have shooter elements, but they're a far cry from Halo, Call of Duty, and...Far Cry.

That last bit about Far Cry isn't as funny now that I actually read it. Anyway, my list goes something like this:

1. Halo 3
2. Half-Life 2
3. Gears of War

1.Bioshock

2.Mass Effect (Hey, you do shoot things, right?)

3.CoD 4

1) MGS4. I know its not on the 360 but its the best damn single player Ive ever played
2) Oblivion

3,MGS2 sons of liberty

I would have to say this is my list for 360 titles:

1. Bioshock

2. Call of Duty 4

3. The Darkness (this one was close to being number 2, such a great story)

4. Half-Life 2

5. Gears of War

6. Call of Duty 2

I don't think that's really fair. I "shoot" stuff in Galaga on my 360. That doesn't make it a shooter, as we're using the term.

Allow me to say again that I find this notion of Mass Effect and Oblivion being shooters to be rather dubious. They're RPGs that have some shooter elements. They're similar in that regard to Bioshock, which is a shooter with RPG elements. I'm aware that as more "hybrid" type games are released, these genre definitions become more subjective and problematic. However, I believe there's still a clear enough line to call Mass Effect and Oblivion RPGs. In both games, your level and cla*ss make you much more powerful than your Unreal Tournament abilities do. There's still a character out there that you're "role playing," who's cabilities in the game are distinct from your own.
