Gah, that's a toughie...I really like CoD:WaW(are you happy, CoD4 geeks?! I NEVER SAID COFD5, OK!!!!) and Halo 2, but Return To Castle Wolfenstein on the PC was great too...=/
"ever made"? i cant answer that but my fav. FPS (still a tough choice) i would have to say Time Splitters 1, Perfect Dark N64 or Quake 3 Arena Dream Cast (could also be played in tird person)
Definitely Halo 2, I mean that was by far the most popular first person shooter I have ever been involved with. As far as third persons go you can't be wrong by saying gears, but I'm going to throw in an old school game I used to LOVE which goes by the name Socom II: US Navy Seals.
Half-Life 2 HANDS DOWN the best shooter to date, its more than just some military shooter where you just run through levels this game is just simply amazing- also Bioshock was freakin awesome too
see when i think of FPS i dont think Call of Duty they are amazing multiplayer games but a TRUE FPS is an amazing singleplayer experience
Do you not understand that in CoD 4 Modern Warfare yeah it's whoever hits shoots first wins, and you think that takes no skill lol. For one your reflex's have to be quick enough to kill your enemy first, second it's just like you say if your a dumbass and run straight into map like it's halo, it's more than a shoot and run game, it takes skill and tactics.
Doom is the game that set the standard for the FPS genre back in the early 90's.Wolfenstein was a good game,but doom was the game that pushed the limits and made fps games.Quake 1 with a 3dfx card was the bomb back in the day too.
Quake but only because of the Team Fortress mod. It will always be my top multiplayer FPS. Please note I'm not talking about Team Fortress Classic which was a mod for the original Half-Life engine. Although, the Half-Life series is definately one of my top single player FPS's.
FPS: Duke Nukem. I saw that game at a Media Play and bought it because it looked funny and came with a free mouse pad. It was the first game I ever played online with friends.
TPS: GTA 3. Cutting-edge stuff in terms of graphics, gameplay, story, and voice acting. This game also redefined the open-ended sandbox format of gaming.

So you're saying that finishing Call of Duty 4 on Veteran is as easy as just aiming and spraying? Wow, if that's all it takes, I must really suck, because I find Veteran difficulty challenging.
RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 2 IS THE BEST SHOOTER OF ALL TIME GEARS IS SWEET, HALO 3 OF COURSE, FAR CRY 2 WAS ALRIGH (THE GRAPHICS WERE SWEET BUT I HATED HOW LONG IT TOOK TO GET INTO THE STORY!)
Best FPS: 007 Goldeneye Best TPS: MDK II Now those are some really good games, if you ask me. BUT, if this is limited to games on the 360, then without a doubt, Halo 3 would be the best FPS, while Gears of War would be the best TPS.
