Give it lots of space and let it "breathe". That's all you can do. As long as your 360 has some room around it and the vents aren't blocked you should be fine. Also, I'm pretty sure that having your 360 sitting horizontally is better than vertically, but I'm not sure on that.

As said before just let it breathe. Be sure to wipe it down and the area around it every now and then. Keep it clean and cool and it should be pretty good to you.

Yeah, cuz that's definitely gonna help it

Just give it space and don't play it for long hours at a time. If you do, give it 10-15 minutes per 2-3 hours to cool down and then power back up and you should be fine.

I have a launch console, and last christmas I decided to buy an Intercooler, and it payed off! The Xbox is louder, but you can feel all the air coming out of it, its a lot. I'd suggest getting one. Its a nice $20 investment.

A few tips...

Turn the "auto-shutdown" function on. After 6 hours or so of inactivity the Xbox will shut itself down. I've seen many people on my friends list forget to turn their Xbox off and leave it running all night long generating heat for no reason.

Keep the xbox well ventilated. Don't put it in a drawer, or on a carpet. Glass or wood or stone is fine.

Same thing with the "power brick". Carpet is a no-no.

Turn on the A/C or point a fan towards it. Or don't play it.

keep it off the carpet and definately dont put it vertically on the carpet. all the air flow comes from where the boots are when u set it vertically and if u stop that up with carpet or a tablecloth your definately going to get overheating. all the vent holes u see on the rest of the console dont pass much air, being that microsoft put a metal exaust system inside the console that makes the air pass from the side of the console opposite where the hard drive attaches, over the processer and graphics card out the back....

Don't turn it on - that will prevent it from overheating.

I suggest just not worrying about it to much. Don't become a self fulfilling prophecy and worry yourself into doing a bunch of crazy wife's tales and voodoo. Like the people that worry so much about scratching their precious iPod they don't even get to enjoy the thing.

in my dorm, i have it in a small piece of furniture under the tv, its kinda cramped, and the back of teh unit is closed, so it gets pretty hot back there. So, i just puta box-fan infront of it, on low speed, and it keeps it at room temperature. If you keep it in an open space, with room for air to circulate, it will generate a bit of heat, but thats perfectly normal ull be fine

my first xbox got the 3 rings of death around the time that gow came out so when i got it back i bought an laptop cooler.  I put that under my xbox and its been much cooler.  Plus it powers itself though the usb device and also allows for for another usb device to be plugged into the back of it.

I have one of the first 360's released and I'm expecting it to pop any day now, but all I've done is mount 1 inch rubber stoppers on the base, lifting the box and keepingit horizontal, and on a wooden shelf. No extra fans, although that it isn't a bad idea, and definitely away from carpet.

i think horizontally is a bit better for cooling, as the main airflow would be blocked by placing it vertical. it helps to also have your ghost buster trap (power supply) on a solid surface as well.

As everyone has said, keep it away from carpet, away from other things generating heat. A fan wouldnt be a bad idea but dont get a cooling attatchment. Not a good idea.

Dude what I did was I bought a desk fan and placed it on the side of my 360, pointing downwards towards the holes. Also, like the guy said before me, dont place the console and the power brick on carpet because of static charge building up.

I usually turn on my air conditioner 10 minutes before turning on my 360, and i can use it for about 4-5 constant hours. Also make sure the 360 has a lot of open space in all the directions and i prefer it in the vertical postion.

Remember, most importantly, before trying any of these methods... make sure you have your aluminum foil hat on so Major League Baseball can't spy on you.

Vertically? I believe the best way is horizontally. Keep it in an open spot basically (not enclosed in an entertainment system for instance). Oh and also, I put 3 floor tiles underneath my 360 on each side to keep it elevated.

first time i have ever heard a good thing about a intercooler. Just hope and pray to the microsoft gods that your 360 doesn't break!
