Since everyone seems intent on being negative (god kills a kitten everytime someone makes a "biggest disappointment" thread), I thought I'd get rid of some of the teenage angst here and ask everyone what their biggest surprise has been on the 360? Which game did you go into not expecting much, but came out enjoying? For me, it has to be Dead Rising. The shiny metal box helped too!

Test Drive Unlimited

I didn't really know what to expect when I started it, and found I really loved racing around the whole island. Absolutely huge world to race it, as the round the island race takes 50-60mins to complete a single lap depending on the type of car/bike you use.

For XBLA - Outpost Kaloki X

I would never have considered looking at it, but it came on the compilation disc, so I gave it a go and loved it. It's a space station management game done in a cartoony way with funny characters and bizarre story

I remember the trial for Outpost Kaloki X, it was good if I remember correctly, but there were other games I wanted at the time and it's sort of fell off the radar now. Speaking of Test Drive Unlimited, do many people still play? I might be interested in picking it up.

Yes there are still a decent number of people playing TDU online, though the way online works is a bit weird. Technically everyone is on the same map, but the way it groups people together you never see more than 8 other people at once. Each time you view the map and return to the world it will be with a different group of people. It is fairly easy to meet up with Friends and drive around the island, or you can meet up at events and race each other in set events.

It is also totally free-roam, meaning you can drive anywhere, on-road, off-road, up the side of the mountain until you run out of traction and slide back down :) It's now down in bargain bin prices so it's well worth picking up.

The handling is not very realistic, though they have gone to a lot of effort to be accurate with the cars, and there is a very large collection of authentic cars and bikes which can be upgraded and resprayed to custom colours.

I would say Gears of War, I know that it was going to be good, but not a AAA game.

After Viking: Battle for Asgard got such terrible reviews, I thought it was going to be awful. It was a lot better than I expected.

The Orange Box. I thought Half-Life 2 would be pretty much all hype, but it's actually one of the most fun games I've played in a long time.
