"2K Marin makes its mark with a big, metal boot"

I understand this isn't particularly new, but I didn't see any discussion about it.

It's going to be a familiar experience for anyone that played the original, but BioShock 2's improvements to gameplay and its more focused storyline make for a game that's more playable and easier to digest. Some of the sense of awe and mystery is lost in transition, but the strength of the setting and more interesting implementation of moral choice make for an experience that's more consistent and rewarding. Anyone looking for a first-person shooter that offers more than flat, stereotypical characters and copy-and-paste supersoldier plots, one that attempts to establish a sense of right and wrong and loops you into the decision making process, and one that's set in one of the most vividly realized settings around should pick up BioShock 2. It's a game in which story, setting, and gameplay are expertly blended to create an experience that's as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.

The review was very positive about the game. Basically, the major con about the game was simply that this is a sequel. There's not as much mystery surrounding Rapture, its similar enough to the original that it doesn't feel quite innovative. But IGN was overwhelmingly positive about nearly all changes to the original. They barely mentioned the MP, but basically just said it was solid and would be fun, but might not have the staying MP power of Halo or MW2. (they might not have had much time to test it).

Bioshock was a huge criticial success, but it seems a lot of people were very worried that the new developer (I believe?) and etc would make this game a flop. This review seems to set those fears to rest, its score is slightly lower than the original's, but that's to be expected as well... we've already played Bioshock xD.

To be honest I don't care what IGN thinks about Bioshock...In their video review the stated two outrageous quotes..."Bioshock isn't as graphically impressive as its prequel" and "It felt to similar to the last Bioshock"

I can understand why it would be a con that the game's atmosphereis similar, we already know the mystery of Rapture, we already know Andrew Ryan, we know about Atlas, and the civil war, etc... What is left? It takes everything that is important, everything that made the game exciting, everything that made the game what it was is gone. The mystery, the story, the world.

I think this game will be magnificent, but you can't blame IGN for stating a truth.

I have absolutely no interest in this game. People seem to only be excited for it because it says BioShock and there's a 2 after it. The creator of the first game didn't want a sequel and didn't want to have anything to do with this game. If the creator doesn't want anything to do with it then I find it hard to get myself excited for it.

Maybe it's my love of the movie industry talking but when someone gets their creation taken away from them just for the sole purpose of monetary gain I find it very hard to care.

I see exactly what you're saying and its a valid excuse...but I don't hold video games on the same plateau as TV shows and Movies , like for me I would feel the same way you felt if somebody other than James Cameron were to make Avatar 2 or some low life studio taking my favorite anime series and milking it into the ground (the disgrace that is Dragonball GT).

While I do think that games are different then TV and movies and that movies are different than TV and vice versa I still look at them all as a form of media. Media that has creators, writers, directors, production studios, ect. I mean movies are mostly made with computers these days. So yeah, I hold games, TV, and movies all on the same plateau and when things like a BioShock 2 or a Spider-Man 3 happen I get very upset and can't find any interest in the project. I find it saddening that people are only excited for BioShock 2 because the first one was so great. I think your forgetting what made that game so great to begin with. You not caring that 2K pretty much said screw you to Kevin Levine and took his creation just so they could milk it for all it's worth is almost infuriating to me. The people buying this game are apart of the problem. The problem keeping Guitar Hero alive and any other series that's been milked to death. BioShock isn't there yet but it will be if people don't care and just buy the game because there's a number after the title.

For such a positive review, 9.1 seems like a low score. That's still great, but the review made it seem better than that.

I heard GameInformer gave Bioshock 2 a 8.25, when they gave Bad Company 2 a 9.5 and Mass Effect 2 a 9.75. I'm not sure how GameInformer rates their games. But haveing 8.25 and 9.1 from IGN seems dangerous of what it will really get on Gamespot. I do trust and like Gamespot due to its more detailed highlights of pros and cons. But I'm skeptical about it being only just 8.0 - 8.5 now...

the game is every bit deserving a 9+ review score

i havnt played that much, but the gameplay is a little bit tighter, the graphics are improved, the atmosphere is even more creepy(the first wasnt, but the second has a mysterious feel to it), and on the plus side, you are a Big Daddy from the get go

i wont spoil too much, but when u meet the Big Sister...its insane
